The team at the Stettler Public Library strive to provide something for everyone with our community programming. Looking at everything coming up this month, I think that we have succeeded. Come and check us out!

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. is the time for the wee ones to bring their big ones for a few stories, rhymes, songs, and all-around fun at Read and Rhyme.

Together, all of these fun activities encourage emergent literacy skills in children 0-5.

Why not join our 1000 books before kindergarten challenge? Ask for a log at the library or download the free app.

For every 100 books you read together (repeats count) you get a free book to keep.

For families we have a special event coming up on Jan. 27,2022!

Set a reminder in your calendar because we will be celebrating Family Literacy Day with a Read for 15 challenge. You can read together or on your own, everything counts!

You can read silently to yourself, you can read out loud to a crowd, you can read to a dog, you can read to your grandma! And you can read anything: your emails, your Facebook feed, the newspaper, or a book.

Report your reading by calling the Library or by filling out a form.

The form will be posted to our social media and web page on the big day, be sure to watch for it, then join us for a special bedtime story time for families at 6 p.m. that night.

The Stettler Family Resource Network will be joining us for stories and a fun activity to celebrate literacy.

Space is limited so please call us to pre-register.

Kids Coding Club is back on Jan. 15 and 29 at 10:30 a.m. or noon.

Using Scratch, the kids will learn the fundamentals of coding to create games and stories online.

This is an incredible way to exercise problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and creativity while having fun!

Spaces are limited so be sure to call us to reserve a spot.

Something Cool After School celebrates Wormapalooza! on Jan. 18 and Jan. 20 at 4 p.m.

We will be learning about and celebrating the world’s greatest composter and will create some great homemade gummy worms!

This program is for ages 6+, please pre-register.

Teens and Tweens are going to be making Sock Sloths on Jan. 19 during Teen Scene. These sloths are incredibly cute and easy to make. Build a sloth for yourself or give it as a gift to someone special.

There is always something fun to be done at Teen Scene every Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Kids ages 10 and up are invited to sign up by calling or messaging the library.

Calling all Adults! The Stettler Public Library and the Jewel Theatre are partnering to bring you a Big Screen Game Night at the Jewel Theatre on Jan. 19.

What a better way to spend a Wednesday night than playing games on the big screen with us! Doors open at 6: 00 p.m. and the games will start at 7 p.m.

Bring your friends or come by yourself, just remember to bring your phone so you can play along.

Admission is by donation and the concession will be open for a night filled with fun!

Is reading more books or reading more diverse books your New Year’s resolution? Joining a book club can help with both of those goals. Reader’s Circle might be the book club for you.

Our selection for January is “Klara and the Sun” by Kazuo Ishiguro. His book explores the theme of what it means to be not-quite-human, exploring love and loyalty through the eyes of an android.

Pick up a copy of the book and join us via Zoom on Jan. 25 at 6:30 p.m. Call the Library for the Zoom link.

Crystal’s Crafting Club is back on Jan. 27 and this time you get to create the most simple but beautiful yarn “Love” wall art. Create a wonderful conversation piece with minimal supplies that are provided in your kit.

Watch the Library’s Facebook page to get the video instructions on how to create your art piece. Kits are limited; call the Library to reserve yours today.

That is all for this week but there is so much happening at the Stettler Public Library during the month of January we don’t want you to miss out on anything.

Follow us on Facebook or visit our website at spl.prl.ab.ca.

You can also stop by and pick up a brochure or call us at 403-742-2292 with any questions you may have.
