Stettler Learning Centre’s student of the month is Anna Lauweryssen.
Since She was young, she has lived just outside of Big Valley, Alberta. She grew up on a farm where her parents farm grain and run cattle.
For the past few years, she has worked as a Health Care Aid in the Stettler Hospital and Care Centre in the Acute Care Department. This fall (2022), she was accepted to Red Deer Polytechnic in the Practical Nurse Program, through Campus Alberta Central at the Stettler Learning Centre.
The flexibility that the program and site offers enables someone from a rural community with a job working part-time a great option and has worked well for Lauweryssen. It helps her remain working and stay within her community. The ability to do this and not shake up her life and have to move away is very convenient. She will be able to complete my practicum in the hospital where she works and be able to be supported by her co-workers.
To be able to work and attend school at the same time is extremely helpful, and is a highlight of this site. The staff have been more than accommodating for anything she has needed learning wise. They offer support to her outside of the required accommodations and provide a safe and encouraging environment for her to learn in.
