Stettler Learning Centre’s latest student of the month is Jessica Chitwood.

Chitwood grew up on a farm in the Bashaw area and attended Mirror School and Alix MACC. She has two children - a daughter who is 21 and a son who is 11.

Living remotely, Chitwood has appreciated the opportunity to continue her post-secondary education online and how easy it has been to access her courses through Red Deer Polytechnic.

Chitwood is currently enrolled in the Building Better Businesses Certificate (BBB) program.

Having heard about the Stettler Learning Centre through her daughter who is enrolled in another program offered through Campus Alberta Central, Chitwood attends class once a week and uses the Stettler Learning Centre as a quiet space to access her class and for internet access. This ensures she can be successful with my learning.

Since taking this program and going in person to the site, Chitwood has increased her awareness of other courses offered at the Stettler Learning Centre and resources available to the community members.

Chitwood says courses range from taking a prep-class for a Class-7 Driver’s License to career advice or employment courses.

Chitwood chose the BBB program through this site as it was convenient for where she lives as she does quite a few errands in Stettler.

Chitwood says that when she spoke to the CAC Coordinator, the coordinator was friendly, welcoming and made the entire process simple and easy.

With the skills Chitwood is learning through the BBB, she hopes to market her lamb meat and use social media as a marketing tool.

Chitwood says she would recommend this certificate as the course material has real value to anyone in the workplace or who is starting a business.

Chitwood continued that the course has real life applications and adds value to anyone’s skill-set. Working through the Stettler CAC site, she notes the staff offer great support and human interaction to ensure successful completion of the courses.

Chitwood’s future plans are to continue building her lamb business and wool products utilizing the marketing and business skills she have acquired through the BBB program.
