Stettler festival catches rising stars from rural Alberta

Catch a Rising Star Dance Festival held its 12th annual Dance Festival in Stettler last weekend.

There were 12 participating studios from all parts of Alberta.

More than 2,000 medals, more than 100 plaques, 16 overall high-score trophies and more than $1,000 in scholarships were handed out over the 34-hour weekend event.

Alden Mueller from JD’s Academy of Dance was awarded a $425 scholarship for the Peacock Dance Academy Summer Intensive.

“Back in Time,” presented by a tap group from Breaking Ground Dance Academy of Oyen, won the overall high-score trophy for the high scoring routine of the entire festival.

Breaking Ground Dance Academy in Oyen is run by Tonya Logan.

Catch a Rising Star Dance Festival has been staged in Stettler since 2008.

The focus of the festival is to promote the performance of dance within the rural areas of Alberta.
