STETTLER ELEMENTARY NEWS -- On Thursday, Dec. 15, a very kind man came into the school at approximately 3:40 p.m. and dropped off a box of hockey cards stating that he was not fortunate enough to have a lot of extras as a child and since he now has the opportunity, he wanted to donate his box of hockey cards asking that we distribute one for every child in the school. His kindness took me by surprise and although I said thank you, I would like him to know how very, very appreciated his actions are. I do not know this gentleman, but if he reads this I would love for him to contact me before I dismantle his collection by distributing them among the students at the school.

As we head into the Christmas break, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff, students, and parents that help make Stettler Elementary School such an amazing school to be a part of. Thank you to Mrs. T. Kirby and Mrs. B. Lynes for all of their hard work to ensure that our Christmas concerts were fabulous again this year. Our final concert of the year was our grade one concert held on Wednesday, Dec. 14. All of the concerts were fabulous and we appreciate our parents on the School Council who ran a bake sale at all of the evening performances. Thank you, as well, to all of the parents who donated the baking for the bake sales. All proceeds this year are being used to purchase books for the new book room that SES is putting together. Having properly levelled, high interest, right fit books is an important part of Daily Five and an important part of enhancing literacy for our students, so we thoroughly appreciate all that our parents are doing to assist with our literacy goal.

Also on Wednesday, Dec. 14, our Kindergarten students traveled to Heart Haven, Willow Creek, Points West and Paragon Place to share their Christmas Concert songs with the seniors in our community. They also stayed to visit after and I believe this visit was enjoyed equally by both. Thank you to our kindergarten teachers for organizing both their own Christmas concerts and the visit to the seniors' residences. It was very appreciated.

As we wound down for the Christmas break, our students took part in Crazy Toque and Sock Day on Friday, Dec. 16 and Ugly Sweater Day on Tuesday, Dec. 20, our last day of school.

Also on Tuesday, our Grade 3 students in 3KR and 3GE had the opportunity to learn first hand about Rocks and Minerals as they received a visit from geologist John Duhault as the culminating activity for the science unit that they recently completed. Our students walked to the theatre on Tuesday as well, and enjoyed popcorn that was donated to us by the Jewel Theatre. We extend our genuine gratitude to the Geddes family for the good deal on the theatre and for the donated popcorn. Our students thoroughly enjoyed that as part of the movie experience. We also extend our most sincere appreciation to Sean from No Frills for donating the water so we could distribute that to our students as well. After the movie and class parties we said our goodbyes to the students until 2017.

We look forward very much to the New Year and wish all families a Very Merry Christmas, a safe and joyous break, and the Happiest of New Years. Until next year, we extend our best wishes to you and to yours.
