The Walk ‘n’ Roll challenge is back for 2022.

In the fifth annual event Stettler is competing against Rocky Mountain House and Wainwright, the 2021 champions.

According to the Heartland Beautification chair, Grace Fix, Wainwright has already jumped out to an early lead but there is still plenty of time to catch up.

Any trip out of the house a Stettler resident takes by either walking or cycling between May 1 and August 31 is eligible to be registered, and it all helps.

To register and take part in the Walk ‘n’Roll competition, head over to the Town of Stettler website and enter your name, town, and start entering your trips.

According to Fix, pre-COVID Stettler residents registered around 24,000 trips per summer.

“It is important to note that this program is not about going for a walk or bike ride for pure exercise,” Fix said in a media release.

“It is a decision not to drive somewhere. We know that there are already lots of residents out there who chose walking and biking as their method of transportation, so please register your trips!”

While the overall winning town is announced and a trophy awarded at the end of summer, a winning town is also announced each month, giving them bragging rights for the next.

The Walk’n’Roll challenge is a project of the Heartland Beautification Committee.
