Mary Davis, Stettler resident, was awarded the 2017 Outstanding Contribution to Community Adult Learning Award on September 28, 2017 at the Annual Literacy and Learning Symposium, in Edmonton, Alberta.

Mary was nominated for her work as a volunteer and instructor at the Stettler Learning Centre. Mary has led innovation for her local community by developing the “Get your Learner’s License” Prep course for individuals who have learning challenges that create challenges for them to do the driver’s test.

Brenda Barritt, Manager of the Stettler Learning Centre, presented the award to Mary, saying, “Mary inspires us all because no matter how many people she has in a classroom, she remains focused on the individual: their goals, their unique needs, and she adapts her materials and approach constantly towards helping those individuals succeed. She has built a solid program for us but more than that she’s inspired and motivated all of us with the approach she takes and the energy she shares with her learner’s.”

Over 200 people were in attendance at the awards ceremony, including the Honorable Marlin Schmidt, Minister of Advanced Education.
