This weekend marks the annual change to daylight saving time. Clocks move ahead on Sunday, March 12, so the gains we’ve been seeing in earlier sunrises will shift to later sunsets. Whether you’re a fan or a hater of the change, more daylight hours are always a welcome sign of spring.

At the library, our programs are showing signs of the changing seasons too. We offer spring crafts for children and adults, including a session guaranteed to ignite the itch for spring.

Local long-time fly fisher Dave Denham will be here to teach you how to tie your own flies on Sat, March 11 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Ages 13 +. If you’ve ever yearned to get out into nature for a quiet morning or evening of fishing, this workshop will prepare you. Limited spots available so pre-register today. And, remember to bring your lunch!

Children:

Kids Coding Club on Mon, March 13 at 4 p.m. is for children who want to move on from simply playing computer games to creating their own programs for games, movies, and fun! Pre-register to reserve a computer.

Something Cool After School happens on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m.

On Thu, March 9, we’ll be creating Minecraft-style torches that actually light up. Then on Tue, March 14, join us as we celebrate Pi Day, where math and pie come together in a delicious equation. We will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Thu, March 16 when you can come try growing a rainbow for a leprechaun challenge!

It’s never too early to start exposing your child to literature in songs, rhymes, and stories. Bring them (aged 0-5) to Read & Rhyme Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Friday mornings, 10:30 a.m. All books read to a child count toward 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, so don’t forget to download this free app to track your family reading between times. When you reach your reading milestones, come into the library for a small prize.

Tutoring one-on-one is an effective way to boost a child’s academic progress. We offer free half-hour in-person sessions for students K-Gr. 12 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays starting at 4 p.m. Call for an appointment.

Teens & ’Tweens:

Join the Teen Scene as we make mason jar glitter globes on Wed, March 15 at 4:30 p.m. Everyone ages 10+ welcome.

Adults:

Reader’s Circle Book Club is reading the novel The Soviet Sisters this month by Anika Scott, where secrets, surveillance, and sisterhood are set against the escalating Cold War. Pick up a copy at the library today and join us for a lively discussion on Tue, March 28 at 6:30 p.m.

Are you or someone you care about experiencing cognitive decline? Minds in Motion is a program designed by the Alzheimer Society for everyone affected (including caregivers) to provide games and social interaction that stimulate the brain. We meet Thursdays at 2 p.m.

All Ages:

Save your tech questions about your iPad, tablet, or smart phone for an appointment with our tech expert on Sat, March 11. Shaunzy is available to walk you through the workings of technology and have you using your device like a pro. Call for a Saturday afternoon appointment.

If you’re searching for work, you might benefit from professional help in updating your resume. Call for an appointment with our volunteer resource person who has 30+ years’ experience in employment support. Available Thursday afternoons, 1-3 p.m.

The Friends of the Library Society’s Giant Book Sale is back during the Trade Show on Friday and Saturday, April 14 & 15. That means that we are now accepting donations like gently used books and DVDs. Do your spring cleaning and support your local library. We will be accepting donations until Thursday, April 6. No encyclopedias please.

For more information or to register for any of the above programs, call the library at 403-742-2292.
