Specially appreciate your teachers

Even though it was a short week, Christ King School in Stettler was buzzing with many special activities like Teacher Appreciation Week, our annual ski trip and our first Lenten celebrations.

Last week during Teacher Appreciation Week, teachers were treated like royalty with gifts, homemade baked goods and a special lunch on Thursday to share with all their classes.

Thanks to all our students and parents for making us feel very loved. We were positively pampered.

Students at Christ King were treated to a wonderfully sunny day for their annual ski trip to Valley Ski Hill on Friday, February 19. Many of the grade 5 and 6 students challenged themselves by strapping on snowboards and learning a new skill. By the end of the day, they were sore but much better at snowboarding than when they first began.

Even Mrs. Broekhuizen and Ms. Lavallee tried it out.

The rest of the kids skied and a number of parents joined us to help out putting on helmets and equipment, as well as enjoying the beautiful weather swooshing down the hill. It was a great day.

Last Wednesday, Father Arlan joined us at the school to help us celebrate the beginning of Lent and to distribute ashes. We were reminded to “turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel”.

To illustrate this point, Father told us about his favourite hobby, fishing.

He told us the story of how, every four years, spawning salmon leave the Pacific Ocean and return to their birthplaces in northern BC to complete their life cycle. The fish have to fight against the powerful current, and this can remind us that we must fight temptation and trials on our way back to God

It’s not easy but that’s the message of the cross; through suffering, we come to God’s glory.

We are invited during this Lenten season to prepare to follow Jesus through His suffering and death onto His glorious resurrection on Easter morning. Come and check out our school-wide Lenten project during these forty days and join us!
