Special guest at library this Friday

The Summer Reading Program has been a success so far.

STETTLER PUBLIC LIBRARY -- The Summer Reading Program has been a success so far. We are so lucky to have the support from businesses and families in our community.

Every week we have regularly scheduled sessions for ages 6-8, 9-12, and teens, including gardening, Teen Cooking Club, and Make and Create, as well as an all-ages family event on Friday afternoon. Check out the schedule for the week on our Facebook page or pick one up from the library for all of our program descriptions, times, and details. Your kids will have a great time and they’ll maintain or build literacy skills for school in the fall.

Tech Time is twice a month during the summer. If you want to learn more about your phone, tablet, e-reader or computer come see us on Thursday, July 21 or Thursday, Aug. 4 for one-on-one assistance. Alternatively, you can call and make an appointment with a staff member at your convenience.

Join us at the library this Friday at 2 p.m. when we have a special guest coming to visit. Marty Chan writes hilarious children’s books and is also a playwright. He will be giving a presentation to the summer reading program that’s sure to be a lot of fun. Snacks and juice will be provided. Check out his Keepers of the Vault, Bigfoot, or Mystery series from the library.

Come visit us this Saturday, July 23 when Crocheting with Crystal continues. Join us at the library to learn how to crochet with only your fingers or if you need to learn other techniques Crystal is happy to help.

We’re having a Read & Rhyme special event on Friday, July 29 at 10:30 a.m. Parents and children ages 0-5 are invited to join Kayla and Jessie at the Stettler Town and Country Museum for a tour, a snack and some rhymes.

Next week is dinosaur themed. We will be making dinosaur masks, digging dinosaurs out of ice, and other pre-historic activities. On Friday, July 29 we are video conferencing with the Royal Tyrrell Museum and they will be giving us a virtual tour of the museum. This is a great way to see the museum without having to make the drive down. It is completely free but we do ask that you pre-register because there is a limit on the number of participants allowed.

Cookbook Club is delicious. This month we had asparagus lasagna, summer chickpea salad, sticky toffee pudding and sangria at our potluck. New members are welcome and you don’t have to come to every meeting. Next month’s theme is Books from Blogs; selections are available from the library. It’ll take place on Monday, Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. Come eat with us.

Do you have a talent? Do you love to perform? Then what are you waiting for? Sign up now for the Summer Reading Program’s talent show on Aug. 12 at the library. All acts and ages are welcome.

Keep an eye out for additional activities on our website (spl.prl.ab.ca) and Facebook page. And if you have an activity you’d like to do/see at the library feel free to approach us.
