Some happy curling news

Well, February has ended and perhaps winter has as well or only just begun.

RUMSEY RECORD

Well, February has ended and perhaps winter has as well or only just begun. The mixed bonspiel ended on Saturday with good results. There were 21 teams entered and all reported to have had a good time. The winners of the first event Brittany Cawiezel and Brooks Watts; in the second event the first prize winners were Mitch Martin and Cheryl Richen and, finally, in the third event the first prize slot went to Tim Primrose and Katie Primrose.

The mixed Bonspiel will be starting up on March 9 and going to Saturday, March 14 so get your entries in now if you want to be a part of the last bonspiel of the season. Call Jackie and Brooks Watts a call at 403-368-2357 to get your team entered. There is will be a concession running all week with fresh homemade desserts, soups and good food. Don’t forget that Oyster night will run on Thursday night as usual so take part in that.

The high school kids did really well with their curling efforts. The boys’ teams came away with a bronze medallion at zones. That team consisted of Garrett Holowath, Daniel McNaughton, Braydon Davidson and Brett Holowath. The mixed team, which was Evan Hampton, Caitlin Wolf, Lowell Nelson and Jordan Ferguson, won gold and the girls’ team also won gold. They had Katie Primrose, Shelby Primrose, Amy Adams and Jessica Wolf on their team. Congratulations to everyone for doing so well at zones, now the mixed and girls’ teams go on to provincial play up in Lloydminster on March 5, 6 and 7, so wish them luck.

The Rumsey/Rowley 4-H Beef club will be hosting district speeches on March 7, starting at 10 a.m. and will carry on for most of the day; so if you would like to sit in on some excellent wordsmiths, this is the place to go.

The Morrin Figure Skating Club will be holding their year-end carnival on Sunday, March 8 starting at 2 p.m. at the Morrin Arena. The doors will open at 1:30. The theme is “Rockin’ through the Ages!” The kids always put in lots of effort throughout the year, so this show is very enjoyable.

The drop-in seniors continue to meet every Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m., so if you have some time on your hands and would like to enjoy a relaxing afternoon of Bingo, coffee and snacks and maybe a game of cards then head in to check it out.

Our community library is starting the process of developing its five-year strategic plan and I need to call upon interested members of the community to complete a survey for me either on the www.Rumseylibrary.ca website or come in and get a paper copy. I kept the survey nice and short, so it will be quick and easy to answer. Come in and see what it is all about. Also, the date is quickly approaching for submitting your story to the new history book. If you are having trouble with how to formulate your family’s story, stop in at the library on Wednesdays and I would love to give you a hand building it. It will be wonderful to look back in the book 10 or 20 years from now to read about where your family was at this time.

My Quote of the week is an Irish prayer because, of course, March is the month of the Irish and St. Paddy’s day on March 17, so enjoy:

An Irish Prayer

May the road rise to meet you

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face.

And rains fall soft upon your fields

And until we meet again

May God hold you in the hollow of His Hand.

Have a great week.
