RUMSEY RECORD -- The Rumsey Men's Bonspiel concluded this past Saturday with some good curling happening with the 18 teams that entered. There, of course, has to be some winners and some second place people, so this is how the final games placed everyone. In the first event, the Al Garman team beat out the Jim Krywcun team. In the B event, Dale Brown's team took away the big prize with Ian Michie picking up second place. In the 3rd event, Justin Wolfe's team came away with the first prize and Justin Jones and his curlers took second. Tim Primrose beat Bill Herman's team out for 3rd in the first event and Bradley Nelson beat out Tracy Nelson's team for 3rd in the second event. In the 3rd event, Phil Johnson took home 3rd place leaving Kent Holowath to bring home 4th in the third wrapping up the bonspiel for another year. There were also some nice door prizes to hand out so Kevin Helmer, James Dodd, Cliff Sharpe, Rod Nelson, John Schofer, Brooks Watts and Brett Holowath also were able to take something home from a good week of curling. The next bonspiel up will be the women's starting on Feb. 10 and going to Saturday, Feb 13. Keep in mind that Oyster supper is always held on Thursday of the bonspiels and the banquet supper is open to all community members whether you curl or not. On the other nights, there is always steak suppers, fresh homemade soup and desserts, so good reason to go to the rink in the winter. Call Brooks and Jackie to register a team at 403-368-2357.
The library will be having another fun craft night on Feb. 17 starting at 7 p.m. where we will learn how to do some felting and make one or two felt dryer balls. (depends how quickly we catch on, I guess) There are some 2016 calendars left and I would love to raise a little more money for the library by convincing you to come in and buy one to grace your wall.
The Starland county and Kneehill County are combining efforts to host a Solar for Alberta Farmers workshop on Feb. 23. The workshop will cover solar electric system siting, installation, permitting and economics. Representatives from the Alberta Solar Co-op will also be there to give a short presentation on the solar farm being built in Starland County. Call the ladies at Starland County office 403-772-3793 to register, because it is mandatory.
I will close off with a bit of trivia for you. Feb. 15, which is also family day here in Alberta, is National Flag Day. So get those flags in good condition so they are flying nice and bright on that day. This year will mark the 51st anniversary for the Canadian flag. That's not that long ago in comparison to the age of our country itself. Who was debating that for so long? Let me guess, a government committee in Ottawa I bet. Have a great week.
