Snowmobile poker rally brings in over $2,000 for Sullivan Lake West Ag. Society

The snowmobile poker rally leaving from the arena in Byemoor on Sunday, March 11th was a huge success with 158 riders buying 731 poker hands.

Top hand and $1,101 in prize money went to Sheldon Snell of Oyen. Graham Peterson of Castor had the second best hand and was rewarded $367.

The raffle of a jacket and hat donated by Heartland Marine and Motorsports of Erskine was won by Glen Hilsabeck of Big Valley.

The recent snowfall was a great boost for the rally making the route around the Byemoor-Endiang area a fantastic ride.

The event was sponsored by the Sullivan Lake West Agricultural Society and with the poker rally, raffle and concession booth combined made over $2,000 for the Ag. Society. Hats go off to the organizers and volunteers for their work.

The Endiang – Byemoor community was well represented at the 41st annual County of Stettler Community Service Awards in Botha on March 8th.

Congratulations to Ken and Eleanor Schultz who were awarded the Stettler Dodge Community Service Award, presented to those persons who have made an outstanding contribution to community service and recreation in the County.

Also, congratulations to Eugene Nixon who was selected by the Sullivan Lake West Agricultural Society as the community service award winner for the Endmoor community.

Endmoor Culture and Recreation Society presented Doug Johnson with a lifetime achievement community service award for his long-time dedication and contribution to the Endmoor Recreation Board and representing the Endmoor area on the County Recreation Board.

Unfortunately, Doug was unable to attend but his wife Deanna accepted the award on his behalf.

Congratulations to all the winners and all volunteers who haven’t been officially recognized.

Small rural communities could not function without dedicated volunteers and it is very much appreciated.

A Rural Crime Prevention meeting has been scheduled for Saturday, March 31st at 1 p.m. at the Endiang Community Hall. The RCMP will be attending. Everyone is welcome.

The first Paint Party in Endiang was so well received a second one is being planned for Wednesday, March 28th at 1 p.m. in the Endiang Community Hall.

Instructor is Luann Buchwitz. No previous experience is necessary and all materials will be supplied to learn acrylic painting on canvas. The class has room for 10-12 painters but a reservation is required. Contact Jodi Johnson at 403-579-2440 or text 403-740-9606 to book your spot.

Endmoor Drop-In Centre crib winners the past couple weeks included — March 1st: Doug Harrold, 1st and Jim Bates, 2nd.

On March 8th it was Gladys McLeod, 1st and Debbie Goeson, 2nd.

Get well wishes are sent to Jack Hayden who recently had knee replacement surgery in Medicine Hat. We wish you a speedy recovery and hope you are running races soon, Jack.

Robert and Sheila Buchwitz are home from a two-month stay in Mazatlan, Mexico. During their stay they had a number of their Canadian friends come down for a visit.

Gordie and Roxie Gallagher returned home last Thursday with their motorhome from about two months in the southern U.S. They spent a lot of time in Arizona but also toured Nevada and California with friends Doug and Lori Roberts.

Byemoor School students enjoyed a break from school on March 8th-9th while the teachers attended the Teachers’ Convention in Edmonton.

Since March came in like a lion, let’s hope it goes out like a lamb and spring will finally be here, as it seems like its been an extremely long winter already.
