Slo-pitch tournament promises plenty of action

BYEMOOR/ENDIANG NEWS -- Mark your calendars for the Byemoor Fair weekend coming up Aug. 19-21.

The 32-team slo-pitch tournament is already full so there will be lots of ball action to watch.

Fireworks go Friday night, and anyone wishing to be a fireworks sponsor may contact Rhonda Hutton at 403-579-2135.

Its time to be thinking of your parade entries; the theme this year is “Small Towns Rock.” The parade goes at 11 a.m. on Saturday. For more information call parade marshal Dave Nixon at 403-579-2479.

The Kids’ Carnival is set for Saturday from noon until 3 p.m. at the arena. Anyone wishing to make a monetary donation or help out with the carnival is asked to call Rebecca Schofer at 403-334-2248.

There will be pancake breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday mornings and a roast beef supper on Saturday evening, as well as a dance and cabaret at the arena Saturday night.

Rod and Lynnette Schellenberg returned home last Monday from an enjoyable two-week vacation driving to Alaska. They saw many interesting sights in Alaska as well as in B.C., the Yukon and Alberta on their trip.

Their Alaskan visit included driving the two-and-a-half mile-long Wittier Tunnel as well as stops at Fairbanks, Anchorage and a two-day ferry excursion past Juneau and Ketchikan, ending up in Prince Rupert, B.C.

The trip checks one more thing off the Schellenberg’s bucket list.

The Heritage Day long weekend saw local folks taking in a variety of activities. Some went camping or fishing, while others took in ball tournaments and other events.

Several local country music fans attended the Big Valley Jamboree in Camrose always a fun-time. Krissy Jack and her girls operated their specialty coffee booth at the jamboree.

Cliff James and Jenelle Hassett along with Briar attended a wedding in Brisco, B.C. on the weekend.

Sunday visitors with Les and Rosemary Stulberg were Terry and Diane Diprose of Red Deer and Diane’s sister Joanne from Moncton, New Brunswick, as well as Dorothy Diprose and Travis Stulberg from Stettler.

Frequent rain and rain showers continue to delay haying operations, pushing it later than usual. On the up side, the countryside has never looked greener.

The moisture is a boon for crops and pastures.
