Slo-pitch teams hold successful tournament in Halkirk

Five teams participated in a slo-pitch tournament in Halkirk this past Friday evening and all day Saturday with the Fowler (south Halkirk) team placing first and the Johnson (north Halkirk) team placing second. Also competing were Castor’s Gus Wetter school, the Halkirk school and the Hauck team from Castor. Thanks to the teams who donated their winnings to the community hall. There were lots of spectators to cheer the teams on and enjoys a BBQ’d lunch. Special feature was a dozen youngsters under 10 who showed off their skills on the diamond.

Town clean-up was held last Friday, a chance for the school kids to help make the town nice and clean. Thanks to all who participated.

Congratulations to Melody Kent who received her thirty year service award pin and gift as a bus driver and to Connie Turre who was given a 10 year service award during the Clearview recognition night held on Thursday, June 17 in Stettler.

Seniors’ potluck supper was held last Tuesday. Following the supper members enjoyed an evening of floor curling. The next pot luck and meeting will be held in September. The treasure sale and bake sale went over very well.

Oops - We missed Owen Schauer’s name from the list of ball players with the Gadsby teams. Sorry.

Congratulations to Bette Hronek and her family who participated in the “relay for life” walk at the Stettler school from 7 p.m. Friday evening until 7 a.m. Saturday morning where thousands of dollars were raised in the fight to cure cancer.

Mel and Dale Kent spent the weekend in Rocky Mountain House helping with the final clean-up as Greg and Laura make the move to Fort Nelson in Northern BC. Greg is employed by Devon Energy in the area.

Kent and Evelyn Johnson were in Vancouver last week visiting with their daughters Kim and Darrel Mackie and girls and with Kandice and Scott Morrison and Forbes. They then accompanied son JD to Regina where they attended the Farm Progress Show and visited with Evelyn’s brother Alec and Deanna Montbriand for a couple of days.

Melody and Dale Kent had Mel’s sister Carol Peterson of Fort Saskatchewan spending time with them last week also visiting was Robby Kent from Rocky Mountain House.

The last hall board Bingo of the season was held on Thursday evening. Watch for ads on the next one to be held in September.
