GADSBY/WESTWOODS NEWS -- Congratulations to the Cassidy boys. The "King of Cowboys," as dubbed by Global TV, Cody Cassidy took first place in steer wrestling at the CFR in Edmonton last week while brother Curtis placed second in the same event. Way to go.

And the numbers are in – 71 of the 91 family members attended Aleta Cassidy's 80th birthday on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Frank and Eleanor Dahlgren attended the Delburne Light Horse Association wind-up banquet and awards night. In the 40 and over high point gymkhana the winner was daughter Elva McAllister; in the ladies' high point, it was granddaughter Tammy Hronek; in the peewee high point gymkhana, the winner was great granddaughter Kayla Hronek, while second place went to her little brother Luke Hronek. Another very proud time for Eleanor and Frank.

Meanwhile Bill and Joyce Hansel headed to Provost to help great grandson Dallan Trenerry with his first birthday, with a dinner at his parents. Close to 30 family members gathered. This included Mary Lou, Jason and Denee and Shaya; members of Curt's family, Leigha and her kids as well. An extra surprise, Dallan is walking. Bill and Joyce stayed overnight at daughter Mary Lou and Stan's at Cadogan before heading home next day.

Percy and Paulette enjoyed family time with a turkey supper at cousin John and Lorraine Hankins', a great visit with aunt Jean Hankins, staying a few days there; and fun with the cousins.

A very successful surprise 70th birthday party in honour of Stan Diegel, hosted by Gloria and the family was held at the Gadsby Community Hall last Saturday night, Nov. 12 with about 40 family and friends in waiting. Stan walked in, everyone shouted Happy Birthday and Stan askedd, "whose birthday?" totally surprised as his birthday is still a month away. Lots of visiting, laughter and well wishes followed. They also celebrated daughter Tasha's birthday, as that is how they got Stan to the hall. Happy birthday to both.

Congratulations to Shayla Derr who has received a $2,500 cheque from the Rutherford Scholarship, which is a Grade 12 academic award and a great honour as only a few are selected throughout Alberta.
