HALKIRK HERALD -- Shane Doan was honoured in Phoenix last week, January 21, at what was named "Doan 380" night. Shane, # 19, has spent his entire NHL career – 20 years – with the Coyotes franchise being drafted in 1995 by the original Winnipeg Jets, who, in 1996, moved to the newly formed franchise, the Phoenix Coyotes, now Arizona coyotes. Shane has surpassed the record for number of goals , 380, and become the all time scoring leader of the coyotes franchise. He is also the longest serving NHL captain currently active within the league.

Shane was recognized by the Coyotes organization, his teammates and several other sports figures. He has a passion for youth hockey and for growing the game in Arizona, and for that reason, he was presented with a cheque for $100,000 by the Coyotes president and CEO, Anthony LeBlanc, as an initial donation into the " Shane Doan Arizona Youth Hockey Fund".

Shane was joined at centre ice by his wife, Andrea, and their four children, Gracie, Josh, Karys and Carson. His parents, Bernie and Bernice watched the ceremony from home.

Shane has competed internationally for Team Canada winning two gold and three silver at world championships; been at a World Cup Championship in 2004 and was on the 2006 Winter Olympic team. He was the winner of the King Clancy Memorial championship in the 2009-10 season and the winner of the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award in 2011-12. Congratulations, Shane!
