SES winds down with many field trips

As the year is winding down, our students and activities are winding up.

STETTLER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL -- As the year is winding down, our students and activities are winding up. We have had several activity filled days and many of those include field trips. On Wednesday last week, our Grade 2 and 3 students participated in their track meet. While this week, we had our kindergarten and Grade 1 students take part in their annual fun day. All students participated and had a great time at each of the events, and we would like to express our genuine appreciation to all of the parents who came out to help with all of our track meets. We could not do this without your help. Also, kudos to Kim Poapst and Jill Neitz for all of the work they have put into organizing these events.

Kudos also go out to all of our teachers who have worked hard to organize year-end field trips for their classes. We have had some great trips already and more coming up. Last Wednesday, our Grade 5 students traveled to Red Deer and enjoyed a scientific trip to Kerrywood Nature Centre. The students learned about owls and dissected owl pellets. They also furthered their understanding of the wetlands unit with a pond study. The students returned to the school with smiles and lots of stories from their day. I spoke to several of the students who expressed how much they enjoyed the day.

The following day, our Grade 4 classes toured the P&H Grain elevator and the Prairie Steam train. These students thoroughly enjoyed their visits as well, and learned a great deal about the past from both tours. The Grade 4 students are also working to complete their final art project. Students in 4NN are learning to weave and are creating beautiful pieces of cloth.

Our final assembly of the year was held on Friday afternoon, where we were privileged to have the Wm. E. Hay concert band perform for us. They were spectacular and extremely motivating for our much younger musicians. We also had representatives from the Legion attend our assembly. They presented flags to our Grade 4 teachers ensuring that all Grade 4 students go into the summer with a small Canadian flag. As well, a number of students from our school won various categories for the Remembrance Day Legion Contest, and these too were presented at the assembly.

This week we have both the final day of kindergarten and the kindergarten field trip taking place on Wednesday, June 22. Our young students will travel to Alix and have a fun-filled day at Moonwalkers. As well, our Grade 6 students left for camp, at Circle Square Ranch, on Tuesday morning and will return exhausted on Friday morning. We look forward to the many stories from their week.

Our Grade 4 students will travel to the Discovery Wildlife Park tomorrow, Thursday, June 23, and then next week will see our Grade 1, 2, and 3 students participate in various field trips. On Monday, our Grade 1 students will be heading to the Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller and our Grade 3 students will spend the day out at Circle Square Ranch. Then on Tuesday, our last student day of school, the Grade 2 students are traveling to Markerville to participate in this annual trip. After that, our hallways will become very quiet and we will miss the laughter and giggles from our students. However, we hope they will enjoy the well-deserved summer break and look forward to seeing them in the fall. To all of our families, we wish you a happy, healthy, sun-filled summer. Enjoy and have a restful break.
