STETTLER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL -- All of the student lead clubs and our intramural programs are in full swing at the Stettler Elementary School. As well, the volleyball program has been up and running for the past few weeks and the students are learning many great skills. They will be able to put these skills into practice during some round robin play this week. It is great to see so many of our students having fun, while learning valuable skills at the same time.

Having fun and learning new skills is not restricted to our sports programs. Our grade 4NN class have been French knitting in art and the students are thoroughly enjoying it. They have already knit many, many metres and have been seen knitting during their recess time, while waiting for the bus after school, and any other time that they can sneak in a few extra minutes of it. If you have yarn you no longer need, this class would welcome donations of any type or amount.

On Wednesday, Oct. 26, a number of our Grade 5 and 6 leaders attended Alberta's WE Day event in Calgary. The empowering four-hour event featured a number of influential speakers such as Chris Hadfield, Paula Abdul, Rick Hansen, and Spencer West. In between speakers, artists such as Brett Kissel, Lindsay Ell, and Tyler Shaw performed for the students and got them energized and moving. Throughout the high-energy day, students were encouraged to take initiative to be leaders and make a difference in the lives of those around them, both near and far. This experience truly tapped into our students' desire to lead and dream big, and we are very much looking forward to seeing what these leaders are going to bring to our school and contribute to our "Leader in Me" program. This was a very exciting opportunity for these students and a big thank you goes out to Mrs. Erin Prehn for organizing this trip and for supervising the event.

On Friday, Nov. 4, the teachers took part in a Professional Development Day at Gus Wetter School in Castor. The staff spent time learning more about the Collaborative Response Model and the new elementary report cards. It was time very well spent, and answered a number of questions that teachers had been wondering about.

On Tuesday, Nov. 8, all of the students and staff in the Stettler complex took part in a Remembrance Day ceremony to take time to remember the sacrifices that were made for us so many years ago. It was a touching ceremony with some strong messages for us to take into the long weekend. On that note, there is no school from Wednesday, Nov. 9 through Friday, Nov. 11, and therefore staff and students will be enjoying a five-day long weekend. We hope that families will be able to spend some quality time together this weekend and look forward to everyone feeling refreshed as we start a fresh week leading up to report cards and parent/teacher interviews.
