“Get On Board” is a project partnership between Alberta Transportation, Alberta Education, Alberta Employment & Immigration (AE & I) and the school bus industry. The focus of this project is to recruit qualified and skilled school bus drivers.

This project resulted from the school bus industry’s request for assistance in ensuring the best professional drivers are available to operate school buses. The industry had embarked on a marketing campaign to recruit qualified and skilled drivers and through the “Get on Board” project a campaign will be able to be province wide.

The goal of “The Get on Board Tour” will be to promote the importance and value of School Bus Drivers and to encourage the recruitment of skilled, safety conscious, professional drivers. Using a highly visible, artistically enhanced “bus”, a recruitment team will travel to a minimum of 120 communities throughout the province. The project lead will work closely with all interested school divisions and school bus driver coordinators to ensure that the individual needs of each area are addressed and targeted. A major, “Get on Board Recruitment and Information Event” will be hosted in selected communities. The event will give the community an opportunity to talk about the roles, responsibilities and opportunities as a school bus driver. Look for the bright yellow Jeep in your area!
