Thinking about how you are going to pay for your post-secondary education? You may not know about the hundreds of scholarships and bursaries that are available. How can you learn more? Check out the Alberta Learning Information System or ALIS.
What scholarships and bursaries are available?
Scholarships and bursaries are made available by government, organizations and post-secondary institutions. On ALIS, you will find three different databases of the scholarships and bursaries available in Alberta each year. Click on the high school tab to view these:
• Alberta Scholarship Programs – lists awards administered by the government’s Alberta Scholarship Program. You can search alphabetically, by keyword or by audience.
• Scholarship Connections – lists awards administered by various organizations and is also searchable by keyword, deadline or award category.
• Post-Secondary Institutions Scholarships – lists awards offered and administered by post-secondary institutions in Alberta.
ALIS provides all the information you need to apply for these scholarship and bursaries: eligibility requirements, monetary value, selection criteria, application deadlines, and more. To make things even more convenient, many of the scholarship applications can be downloaded from the ALIS site. Not all awards are given according to marks only; many are based on where you live or your program of studies. And every year many are unclaimed.
