RUMSEY RECORD — The curling rink was busy this past Sunday, Dec. 4 with the Super League teams continuing their round robin play towards deciding who really is better at this game. There were 12 games played on the three sheets of ice throughout the day so lots of curling to watch; a good day for all who attended.

The Agricultural Society will be having their annual general meeting this coming Monday, Dec. 12 starting at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome at this meeting and it doesn’t mean you will be signed up to the board if you choose to attend. It is good to have some public input once in a while to bring new ideas to the table.

The Elks Turkey Bingo will be taking place this evening in the Rumsey Hall starting at 7:30 p.m. so come out and join the fun. The Elks and Royal Purple are great organizations that do so much good for our community. This is a prime opportunity to get out and have some fun and support an organization that is always giving. They are always looking for new members as well if that would appeal to you. They will be hosting their second turkey bingo in Big Valley the following Wednesday, Dec. 14.

The 2017 community calendars have finally arrived at the Rumsey Library. I had a little trouble getting them printed this year so they are considerably delayed. I hope I will still be able to interest everyone in coming to purchase one or two for Christmas presents or for your own use. There are beautiful local pictures featured each month plus all the local events posted month by month so you know what is happening. This is the one and only fundraiser that the library does and each calendar costs only $15.

December’s craft night at the library will feature the creating of a Christmas door decoration with bells and ribbons. Please bring in your glue gun if you have one. We will have the craft night on Thursday, Dec. 8 because of the turkey bingos on each Wednesday. I hope to see you there.

Of course, with Christmas around the corner our local schools with be hosting Christmas concerts before the kids are out for the holidays. Big Valley School will be having their Christmas concert on Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Community Hall; Trochu will host a band concert on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m. with the elementary concert to follow on Wednesday, Dec. 21. Then Morrin will complete the Christmas concert circuit with theirs on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. If you are lacking Christmas spirit this might be the boost you need.

A final thought. Careful what you say around little ears:

As we were putting out cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve, I accidentally dropped one. “No problem,” I said, picking it up and dusting it off before placing it back on the plate.

“You can’t do that,” argued my four-year-old.

“Don’t worry. Santa will never know.”

He shot me a look. “So he knows if I’ve been bad or good, but he doesn’t know the cookie fell on the floor?”
