Residents invited to nominate volunteers for recognition during the National Volunteer Week

Stephanie Hadley and the Stettler Volunteer Centre are looking for five outstanding local volunteers, who will be recognized for their services to the community during the National Volunteer Week, April 10 to 16.

“We‘ve put in a request to all the organizations in town as well as the public and you can nominate anyone,” says Hadley.

The deadline for the nominations is March 31. A group, composed of members from the Stettler Hospital’s volunteer services and employees from the Information and Referral Centre, Home Support, the Stettler and District Handibus Society, Adult Learning and the Employment Centre will select the five outstanding volunteers.

The volunteer centre will be partnering with the Stettler Community Health Centre during the week to host a Stettler volunteer tea at the Stettler Community Hall on April 14 between 2 and 5 p.m.

“We will recognize all volunteers but we will also recognize the five shining stars that day,” says Hadley.

The volunteer centre will also be flying the banner in Stettler during that week, as well as do some promotion about the importance of volunteering.

“We’ll be asking businesses and organizations to also promote volunteers that they work with for that week,” says Hadley.

Nominations

Hadley has received eight nominations so far and hopes to get more nominations before the end of the month.

“We hope that this will be an annual recognition, so if somebody doesn’t receive the award this year, there’s always an opportunity to receive it next year,” explains Hadley.

Ever since moving back to Stettler from Grande Prairie last fall, Hadley has been blown away by how active volunteers are in Stettler.

“Volunteering is very important in Stettler,” says Hadley.

“I would say that the majority of volunteers that are active in the community don’t necessarily filter through my office.”

All residents are welcome to attend the volunteer tea.
