Replica of aviation wonder to be built

I don’t know about any one else’s rain gauge but in the crescent there was over four inches of rain last week, it will be interesting to see what we get out of this little storm this week.

I hope it is nice this Sunday for Mother’s Day, don’t forget to be at the hall between 9 and noon for the annual breakfast hosted by the Botha Community Centre; there will be a free door prize for the moms, be sure to check the ad in this week’s paper.

If you haven’t picked up mom’s gift yet, you might want to stop to see Leigh Shepherd and other volunteers at No Frills or Walmart this Friday as they sell carnations for the MS Society.

Remember, Shep’s Crew will be walking again this year in Red Deer on May 30. In fact, I believe that we get to start the walk, which is a great honor for all of us.

To honor Botha’s history, the Botha Centennial committee is proceeding with plans to build a full- scale model of the Underwood Flying Machine. This aviation wonder was built north of Botha in 1907 by the Underwood brothers. Construction will begin in June 2010, if you would like to help with either time, money or material please, contact Karen at the village 403 742 5079 or Bob Erickson 403 742 4719. The committee is planning to apply for a $25,000 grant, but must have a thousand dollars in cash donations prior to the application being made. This is a tax-deductible donation and receipts will be issued.

The Botha senior centre is hosting carpet bowling on Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m. and floor curling on Thursdays at 7p.m. The next Bingo will be Tuesday May 11 at 6:30 p.m. Their monthly meeting was held this past Monday at noon. I hope to have their summer schedule for next week’s edition.

The Old Time Dance Club’s Friday Dance is May 14. I believe that this is the last dance before they break for summer.

That’s it for Botha this week .

Have a great day.
