Quilts great help in raising funds

Rumsey Record

Monday, March 21, the ladies from the district travelled to Trochu in very bad weather conditions, to host the birthday party of the month. Helen Steen was the hostess and did up everything with a St. Patrick's theme. "Memory Lane" band from Three Hills were on hand to play and sing for everyone to enjoy.

There were three birthdays this month, Iva Cooper, who celebrated with her family and lodge friends as her birthday was March 21, Ann MacArthur, and Della Davis. The hostess for the month of April is Pat Holowath.

Judy Stoneman had her second knee surgery in Calgary Foothills hospital on Wednesday and was home again on Saturday (last week). Modern medicine is surely wonderful. She says everything is doing well and she is being looked after very well.

Helen Steen had her granddaughter, Connie and her son Owen visiting (Randy and Vi's daughter from Sask.). She was on route chauffeuring boys around. She picked up one of Randy's other grandsons at the farm here and delivered him home to Sparwood B.C. Connie's husband Scott was working at the time, so missed out on the trip.

It's always nice to hear about young folks doing well in their activities. Our granddaughter Carissa Woolsey of Red Deer was on the cheerleading squad when attending university in Edmonton a couple of years ago. Now as a working girl, she is volunteering to coach a cheerleading group in Red Deer. They went to Edmonton recently for competitions and won gold.

Phone me with happy achievements of your family.

Word was received this week of the passing of Margaret Harty of Red Deer, and one time neighbour from Rumsey. Funeral services are set for Thursday, March 31 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Deer at 11 a.m. Folks are invited to join the family at the viewing the evening prior from 7-9 p.m. at Eventide Funeral Chapel. Our sympathy to all the family members.

Many years ago, when Eddie and Jeanette Dietrich lived in this district, we got to know his sister and her husband, Jean and Fletcher Forester of the Morrin district. Word was received this week of the passing of Jean.

Best wishes to Gordie Dietrich as he is a patient in Calgary's Foothills hospital.

One of the baby quilts that were made when the ladies of the district did their quilting on March 14-15 was sent to Red Deer to the fundraiser silent auction for Ronald McDonald House last Saturday. The quilt brought in over $80 and the auction as a whole made over $20,000. The rest of the quilts that were made this year have been delivered to Salvation Army in Drumheller and also Drumheller's Grace House. Two of the quilts are going to St. Mary's Health Care Center in Trochu.
