Donalda Diary
The Donalda Library presents the summer reading program Agent 009, which runs until August 20th. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., are for children who will be in grades 1 – 5 in the coming school year. Thursday afternoons, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., is for grade 4 and 5 students only. Participants must bring their lunch.
At the Ag Society, the Donalda Junior Forest Wardens program for kids aged 6 – 16 is in need of a leader. If you like the outdoors and want to give back to kids in your community, please call Jerry, 403-883-2409. For information on the program, call Mike 403-883-2469.
The Ranch Rodeo was a great success, and returned a nice profit. The Ag Society’s fall supper will be held on Saturday, November 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. The Christmas Market will run a month later, on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Ag Society’s next meeting is Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
The Donalda Bench Fair will take place on Aug. 8. Entries will be accepted on Friday, Aug. 7, 1 – 5 p.m. The show opens Saturday at 9 a.m., and runs until 5 p.m. And don’t forget the “toonie breakfast”, 9 – 11 a.m.
And while you’re in Donalda, why not visit the Donalda Gallery for the Arts and see our new exhibition? Glass and tile work by Lacombe artist Wayne Spinks is showing until August 5. Arlene Oberg’s exhibition, Fall Colours, runs until the end of August. The Rooks exhibition starts Aug. 6. There is more work by local artists upstairs. Come and see us in the historic CIBC bank building on Donalda’s Main Street. Admission is free, and we’re open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday to Sunday (or by request at the museum across the street).
Donalda and District Museum has some exciting projects on the go. We are converting the museum’s catalogue to an electronic database, entering every item in the Museum, and taking new pictures of every item. If you can do data entry or basic digital photography, we could use your help. We expect to complete the project by the end of 2010.
We are working with Royal Alberta Museum to produce a travelling exhibition on Chinese restaurants in Alberta. If you have any information about Donalda’s, we’d like to hear from you. The exhibition should be available late next year.
With the goal of producing a new local history, our most exciting project is collecting information about past and present residents of Donalda. (Donalda’s Roots and Branches was published in 1980.) Whether your family has been in Donalda for a week or a century, we’d like to hear your story.
The Donalda and District Museum Society meets the fourth Tuesday of every month, 7:30 PM, in the Donalda Library. The next meeting is August 25, 2009. If you would like more information on any of these topics, please call the Museum office at 403-883-2100. Museum hours: 9 a.m – 5 p.m daily.
