Byemoor Endiang news

Be sure to treat Mom on her special day by taking her to these events in Byemoor and Endiang this weekend.

The Mother’s Day Strawberry Tea and Social at the Byemoor Community Hall is on May 10 at 2 p.m. There will be a short program and a quilt raffle.

The tea is hosted by the Byemoor Ladies Home Circle and proceeds will go to the Byemoor Centennial Celebration.

A Mother’s Day Pancake Breakfast at the Endiang Community Hall will be on May 11. Breakfast will be served from 9 – 11 a.m. and is hosted by the Endiang Board of Trade.  Proceeds go towards purchasing flowers to beautify the hamlet and also for lights at Christmas.

Byemoor 4-H Beef Club was among the 4-H clubs and organizations participating in the Provincial Highway Clean-up Program on May 3. The local members and parents cleaned a section of Hwy. 589 near Byemoor. After the clean-up, they enjoyed pizza from the Byemoor Hotel and had a meeting.

Hats go off to all those participating for making our roadways clean and tidy, it is much appreciated.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Shirley Lumsden, who passed away in Hanna on April 29 at 83 years of age. Shirley was the youngest of three children born to Ole and Eleanor (nee Wasdal) Walle of Endiang. Shirley’s father passed away when she was four months old.

After her mother remarried, to Walter Gallagher, she was joined by an additional eight brothers and sisters, and all were raised on the family farm southwest of Endiang.

Shirley married Jim Lumsden and they farmed near Hanna where they raised their three children — Kathy, Steven and Myles. Shirley was an active member of the Hanna community. She was also musically talented and shared that talent, along with her sister Irene, at many senior lodges and functions.

Our thoughts are with the Lumsden, Walle and Gallagher families in their sad loss of this fine lady.

Keep in mind the Byemoor Centennial Parade is coming up on Saturday, June 7 as part of the Byemoor 100 Celebration. Everyone is invited to participate with a parade entry to celebrate this special milestone.

It is hoped there will be good representation from the area families and farms, organizations and clubs, children, equine groups, antique and classic car, truck and tractor enthusiasts, neighbouring communities and anyone who would like to help Byemoor celebrate.

Parade marshalling is at 10 a.m. and parade starts at 11 a.m. Contact Les Stulberg by phone or text at 403-740-9336 with your entries.

Happy Birthday wishes are sent to Ken Robertson who celebrated his 80th birthday on April 30, to Terry (nee James) Gallant who celebrates her 80th birthday on May 8 and to Patsy (nee Smith) Burton celebrating her 81st birthday on May 12.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful moms out there, we hope you enjoy YOUR special day.
