CHRIST KING CATHOLIC SCHOOL -- The first month of school at Christ King has been crammed with a lot of events as students prepare to dive into week five.

School at Christ King started on Aug. 29, where new students, teaching assistants, and teachers were introduced, such as Miss Lozeau, Mrs. Turre, and Mrs. Glacier.

Starting Sept. 13-21, the school had its annual book fair. The school even ran a little contest to see which students could guess how many pages were in several books that were tied together. The students couldn’t count or measure the pages they just had to make their best guesses! The student with the closest (or exact) guess won money to spend at the book fair. Winners included Madison Swaren, Darius Payne, Mackenzie Russell, and Trip Hunt.

Christ King had Mass on Sept. 21, where Father (Donatus Ihekwoaba) started the year by talking about how God gives each and every one of us a gift to share with others.

The school also had open house on Sept. 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Parents could come into the school and look at their children’s classrooms, meet other families and parents, and meet the teachers of the school.

Spirit Squad started has started up, made up of junior high students who run the school’s dances, fundraising events, spirit days, and other events. Spirit Squad had a little vote and finally the chosen ones are: Bailey Strandquist as prime minister, Autumn Wyness as treasurer, and Madison Swaren as secretary.

Christ King will have its annual Terry Fox Run on Sept. 29 at 1:20 p.m.

Spirit Squad has announced that Blue and Yellow day will be on Sept. 30, where both students and teachers will have to wear as much blue and yellow as they can on that day, blue and yellow being Christ King’s school colours. The class with the most participation and enthusiasm wins the Spirit Day trophy.

Christ King has also started putting together volleyball teams made up of students from grades 6-9. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams had their first games this past Wednesday, Sept. 20, where they played Big Valley. The boys’ team won one set and lost two, while the girls’ team lost all three sets.
