Novice hockey tournament this weekend

Weather still dominates conversations, with more fog this winter than anyone can remember in any winter previous. Last weekend extremely strong south-east winds swept fields of much of their snow and created some huge drifts in the most inconvenient places.

The hamlet of Endiang now has street signs, installed by the County of Stettler last week.

The community extends sympathy to the Tucker family on the passing of Jeanette (nee Tucker) Johnson of Delburne on Feb. 10 at the age of 63 years following a short battle with cancer. Jeanette was the youngest daughter of the late Allan and Myra Tucker. Clifton and Mickey Tucker and Ken and Eleanor Schultz travelled to Delburne on Feb. 13 for a fellowship luncheon that followed a private burial service.

Jeanette is survived by her husband Ken, son Keith (Tracy) Johnson, daughter Stacey (Ted) Sim, five grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends.

Endmoor novice hockey team has some games coming up at Endmoor Arena in Byemoor this weekend. facing Brooks on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Coronation on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Cody Keith and Tristan van Zandbergen are playing hockey this winter with the Castor Bantam Cyclones and on Saturday, Feb. 27 the Castor team will be playing against Stettler in Byemoor at 6 p.m.

Travis James is home for a few weeks from Australia where he was working with bringing in the Australian grain harvest. He will return to work there until spring.

The Valentine’s Dine and Dance in Endiang on Feb. 13 was well attended..

Congratulations to Doris Schilling who won the major door prize of a weekend getaway to the Rafter Six Ranch Resort west of Calgary.

Dale and Dee Green were named the Valentine King and Queen for most romantic meeting. Buck and Rhonda Hutton won the Newlywed Game for knowing their partner the best. Jean Schilling won the 50/50 draw

Everyone enjoyed dancing to the music of Marty & Company (Marty Brooker, Mary Braun and Miles Buchwitz)

Byemoor Curling Club hosted a Family Day curling bonspiel on Feb. 14 with 10 teams competing. Congratulations to the team of Deanne Walker, Doreen Nixon, Eugene Nixon and Quinn Peters on winning the bonspiel.

Rosemary Stulberg along with her parents Bob and Dorothy Diprose of Stettler attended an 80th birthday open house for Walter Shadlock in Hanna on Feb. 14. The Diproses and Shadlocks were former neighbours at Verdant Valley many years ago.

There was a good turn-out for the Endmoor Volunteer Appreciation evening held in Byemoor on Monday, Feb. 15.

The evening featured a performance showcasing the talents of magician and illusionist Sheldon Casavant.

We extend sympathy to Max and Elaine Ainsworth and their family Jeff, Nicole, Lee and Ty on the passing of Elaine’s mother Kathleen Clark at Killam at the age of 85 years. Our thoughts are with you in your loss.

Sharon McCrindle along with her daughter Darlene Webb and grandsons Logan and Mason Webb of Veteran travelled to Carlyle, Sask. on Tuesday for a visit with Earl, Vicki, Sydney and Riley Flynn. They returned home on Saturday.

The Endmoor Drop-In Centre held its crib meet on Tuesday evening and had a pretty good turn-out despite the foggy weather. It was a Wasdal sweep with Dot Wasdal placing first with 10 points and Art Wasdal was second with 14 points.

Next crib night is on March 2.

Sympathy from the community is extended to the family of Albert Albright, a former resident of the Byemoor district, who passed away on Feb. 13 at the age of 82 years

Our thoughts are with his wife Loretta and sons David, Delvin (Heather), Perry (Edita) and Kelly (Wanda). Albert’s funeral was in Stettler on Feb. 20.

Sympathy is sent to the Woelk and Glubrecht families on the passing of Pat (nee Glubrecht) Foksa on Feb. 19 in Calgary at the age of 80 years. Pat is survived by her husband Matt and son Derek, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Les and Rosemary Stulberg attended the funeral in Stettler on Saturday for Joe Gendre Sr., the father of Erskine councillor Joe Gendre Jr. Mr. Gendre was 87 years of age.
