November chock-full of fun at Stettler Library

Celebrates Remembrance Day

By Crystal Friars LIT Assistant Library Manager

November is just getting started and the Stettler Public Library has the month chock-full of fun and informative programs for people of all ages. Just take a look at this!

Something Cool After School commemorates Remembrance Day Nov. 1. Using the famous poem “In Flanders Fields” by John McCrae as inspiration, the kids will make 3D poppy art.

Remembrance Day Commemorations at the Stettler Public Library continues on PD Day November 2 at 1 p.m. Called “We Remember” the kids will be creating art that shows our appreciation for the sacrifices made by our soldiers on our behalf.

Come and put your gaming hat on and join our Super Smash Brothers Tournament here at the Stettler Public Library on Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. Come and challenge your friends and become the champion of the Library’s gaming universe.

Our TIFF Film Circuit Series continues on Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Jewel Theatre. This month’s movie is called “Leave No Trace” and is the story of Will and his teenage daughter, Tom, who have lived off the grid for years in the forests of Portland, Oregon. When their idyllic life is shattered, both are put into social services. After clashing with their new surroundings, Will and Tom set off on a harrowing journey back to their wild homeland. Tickets are $10 each and are available at the library until Nov. 3 and at the door the night of the showing.

Our Adult Crafting series continues on Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. when you get to create your Remembrance Day masterpiece when you try your hand at painting. Create a portrait of a soldier or a cross against a setting sun that will be a wonderful tribute.

We have copies of our book selection for our next book club discussion. Join us on Nov. 27 at 6:30 p.m. as we dissect the book “Brother” by David Chariandy. Meet up with some like-minded new friends! Tea and coffee will be served because you can’t have a great conversation without a cuppa!

I’m sure that you all know the premise behind the tv show “Survivor”. Well, take those ideas and attach them to the Stettler Friends of the Library’s fundraiser: Christmas Wine Survivor. Come to the library armed with a bottle of wine (minimum wine value $15) and buy a ticket for $20. Then join us for the Elimination Party on Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. (it is not necessary to attend the party to win). The last person standing wins 30% of the wine collected. You will be ready for Christmas, New Year’s and a quiet night at home. Proceeds will purchase children’s play equipment at the library. Tickets are on sale now and rules are posted on the Stettler Public Library’s website (spl.prl.ab.ca).

This is just a taste of what the Stettler Public Library has to offer during the month of November. Please feel free to call us at 403-742-2292 for more information on any of the services that we offer. Plus check out our website at www.spl.prl.ab.ca and follow us on Facebook.
