No sticks at family fun skate on Saturday

The Family Day Fun Curling Bonspiel at the Byemoor curling rink drew 10 teams for the fun-filled day with many young curlers participating. The event involved not only curling but participation in some “Minute to Win It” style games for points as well. The Rod Moench family of Hanna were the winning team and the day concluded with a potluck supper.

Some local folks participated in the Bull Congress at Oyen recently. Maureen Wasdal showed a pen of commercial heifers, Maureen and Eric Smith of Mappin Simmentals showed bulls and Grace Sorensen competed in the showmanship class. Congratulations to Grace on winning senior showmanship.

Congratulations to Jeff and Stephanie (nee Mappin) Yule on the birth of their daughter Sawyer Phyllis on Feb. 15. Proud grandparents are Stephan and Kathy Mappin.

Kirk and Twila Buchwitz and boys spent the long weekend at Melfort, Sask. visiting with members of Twila’s family.

The district experienced some unusually cold weather for this late in February when on Friday the mercury dipped to minus 33 and with the wind chill factor it was minus 43. School buses did not run that day, the school was closed and the ski trip to Alliance was cancelled.

Sympathy is extended to Bill and Shirley Mappin and the Nemetz family on the recent passing of Shirley’s brother Carl Nemetz.

Some area residents including the members of the Endmoor Drop-in Centre took in a performance of the Castor dinner theatre’s production “Take a Number”.

Happy Birthday to Tanis Longshore, who celebrated her 25th birthday with a social evening at her cabinet shop on the Longshore farm on Saturday. This young entrepreneur has started a successful business making cabinets and furniture.

There will be a Family Fun Skate at the arena in Byemoor on March 5 from 7 – 9 p.m. Helmets are required and no hockey sticks allowed. The evening event includes music, games, hot chocolate and doughnuts. Admission is free but a donation to the Stettler Food Bank is asked.

The Byemoor Snowmobile Poker Rally is set for March 6 with registration beginning at 9 a.m. at the arena. Last hand must be in by 5 p.m. For more information contact Dave 403-740-9268 or Dylan 403-740-6496.

Note the next meeting of Endmoor Minor Hockey Association will be on Tuesday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. at the arena in Byemoor.
