Nice to be appreciated for quilts

Gee, we went a whole week without a spring storm. Spring must be just about here. Monday April 19, the ladies from the district travelled to Trochu to host the monthly birthday party.

Gee, we went a whole week without a spring storm. Spring must be just about here.

Monday April 19, the ladies from the district travelled to Trochu to host the monthly birthday party. There were seven residents having birthdays this month; Lizzie Nelson, Ely Goddard, Genevieve Dallas, Thelma Palin, Holger Nielson, Bernice Martin, and Irene Frolek. Each received a small useful gift courtesy of the Rumsey Ag. Society that funds the birthday gifts.

Pat Holowath was the hostess for this month and had helpers to serve the delicious angel food cake with fresh strawberries. Marion Stiekle and her group of musicians from Three Hills were on hand to entertain with their band. Everyone sure does enjoy the music and we are so grateful to those who are willing to share their talents for others to enjoy.

It was nice for Linda Helmer to come and help as she had with her, sisters, Elsie and Betty who were able to spend some time with their other sister Alma Tolman, who is a resident of the nursing home. The Storch family had gathered together on Sunday, April 18 to have a nice dinner at the Drop-in Center and spent afternoon visiting and playing cards. This is an annual affair but the group is gradually getting smaller.

The May birthday party will be the third Monday in May and Pat Hatt will be the hostess. This will be Monday, May 17, which is the week before the long weekend.

A thank you card has been received by the ladies who do the quilting in mid-March in Rumsey from Sharon Doyle, to which we reply with “you’re very welcome.”

Folks had the opportunity to attend the Morrin multi-club achievement night in Morrin on Thursday evening. The members proudly displayed their projects that they had been working on all year. Congratulations to Mathew McNaughton, who was presented with his bronze medallion from the Alberta Treasury Branch, for 90 points earned for record keeping since he became a member of 4-H.

In the small engines class, were the two Hampton boys, Levi and Evan, Jonathon Kiemele, three Kopjar boys, Kody, Quinon and Bryce, two McNaughton boys, Mathew and Daniel, and Serena Michie. Serena is also in the sewing class of the club along with two Bell sisters.

Best wishes to Judy Stoneman as she recovers from knee surgery at home with her family on the farm. She was in the Red Deer hospital for the procedure.

All too quickly, it will be July and the Rumsey Ag. Society is gearing up for the annual ball tournament to be held July 16-17-18 at the Rumsey sports grounds. They would like everyone to know that the concession that will be available over that weekend will be manned by the grade 12 class of 2011. Come and donate by helping out or monetary donation to the cause.

Volunteers for St. Mary’s Health Care in Trochu were treated to an evening of entertainment and refreshments on Thursday evening, April 22. All folks were royally entertained by “ Hearts ‘n Harmony” group of ladies from Olds way.

Sunday, May 2 will be the next church service in the Morrin United Church when Rev. Mervyn and Marilyn Penfound will be attending.

A 4-H field day for the Rumsey Beef club was sheduled for Friday the 23 but had to be postponed due to rain. How about that, we got a bit of rain over Thursday night. Wonderful.

The field day was then held on Sunday, April 25 with most all of the members bringing their calves to town. Some of the calves don’t think too much of this venture. After a period of time, things cool down and the members paraded their calves.

David Sengaus came and instructed the members how to present their calves on show day. The moms made chilly and buns for everyone at noon, which consisted of a good crowd of people. There are 27 members in the club, and with their leaders and guests makes a goodly number of folks for dinner.

The 4H show and sale will be held in Delia on the first Monday in June, which is June 7 this year. The Rumsey Rowley 4-H club will be showing second this year as Delia is the host club.
