The doors opened at Mother Teresa Catholic school on Tuesday with four, excited, little girls starting their formal education in Grade 1.  We welcome two new teachers to the staff: Miss Jolene Hutmacher from Red Deer will be the homeroom teacher for grades one through three; Mrs. Bauman from Botha is the new teacher’s aide.  Ms. Sherri Beier, Mrs. Ellyn Schaffner and Mrs. Maxine Baird return to the classrooms.  Playschool will commence at the school in the near future.  Kindergarten age students will go to Castor this year.

The school council will meet on Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.;  awards night will be held on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. and students will participate in the Terry Fox run on Sept. 26.  Each week Ms. Beier will lead the students in “ active Tuesday” exercises.

Sympathy is extended to Delores Chick and family on the passing of her husband, Albert “Abe” Mason, on Aug. 29 in Red Deer.  A memorial coffee party was held on Sunday, Sept. 7 to celebrate Abe’s life.

Our community welcomes Frank and Megan Nelson.  They have purchased the former home of Margret and Jim Green and are busy settling in.

The Hanna Elks have invited our lodge to a golf tournament on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. followed by a steak supper.  This is the last Elks golf tournament for the season.

Stan and Dorothy Anderson accompanied Stan and Mabel Wheller of Killam on a day trip to Alder Flats.  They stopped at the Ponderosa Western store and cafe which is operated by Kevin and Mary Rowland and is located in the country about two miles South of Alder Flats.
