A grandma in the class – Lukas’ grandma Annie came to celebrate National Family Literacy Day in the Kindergarten classroom and she had a lot of fun playing a board game with the students.

Last week, on Jan. 27, Christ King School celebrated National Family Literacy Day. Students and their families were encouraged to get comfy with reading; so, many came dressed in their pajamas, housecoats and slippers, toting along their favourite stuffed animal. We enjoyed playing literacy- promoting games like body boggle, hangman, and cranium together. We also had cookies and milk and some people even won door prizes like a Scrabble game, magazines and free family memberships to the library. A good time was had by all.

Guest speaker, Ralph Cervi also visited us on Jan. 27 to remind our students about how to be safe using the internet. He visited the grade 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8 classrooms. Grade 7 student, David M, was surprised to hear how easy it is to find people and their personal information on the internet.

Our school’s annual Friendship Celebration will be on Feb. 11. Everyone is welcome to join us. With Lent just around the corner, we will be commemorating Shrove Tuesday with a pancake lunch at the parish hall on Feb. 16 and an Ash Wednesday liturgy at the school with Father Arlan the following day at 11 a.m.

Our school ski trip is scheduled for Feb. 19. We will be travelling to Valley Ski Hill near Alliance and look forward to great day of hitting the slopes.
