Museum needs support

It still looks like winter outside, but your museum is getting ready for spring, and we need your help. We would be grateful if you would be kind enough to volunteer again this year – and bring your friends!

The creamery, the bank, and the railway station will need some help to get themselves all spruced up for their summer visitors. A spring cleanup to sweep away the dust of winter and get the old girls ready will take place in mid-May. We’ll even feed everyone who turns up to help.

Speaking of spring cleaning, don’t forget the pancake breakfast and garage sale, scheduled this year for May 29. Whether you are cleaning out the attic, the basement, or the garage, don’t throw away those gently-used-but-no-longer-needed items. Donate them to the museum’s cause, or rent a table for yourself.

In late June, the school picnic program will have local school children soaking up some local history as they tour the museum, then play some of the same games and lunch on the same kinds of snacks as their great-grandparents. We need referees, and spectators, too, so plan to come out and see.

Our new picture history books of downtown Donalda have been going fast. The first printing is completely sold out, and the second is nearly half gone. Get yours before it’s too late. We still have some of the new 1909-dated calendars, which features a picture of downtown Donalda in 1913, and months dated 1909. (don’t worry – these have the same arrangement of dates as 2010. They just look cooler.)

Donalda and District Museum really needs your help. We depend on our volunteer community to keep the museum open in summer, which is the main tourist-income season. There just isn’t enough money to pay staff seven days a week. A couple of hours of your time on a summer weekend would sure help us out. We will provide orientation training, so a desire to meet new people and a love of history are all you need. Why not come out and see what we are about? Call the museum office, 403-883-2100, for more information, or e-mail us at info@donaldamuseum.com.

The museum’s web site www.donaldamuseum.com has been updated, and revised to include a What’s New page where you can find out what’s going on in the museum. This page lists upcoming events, new projects and new displays at your museum.

The sponsor page has also been updated. We are still looking for sponsors. We offer reasonable rates for ad space. Call the museum office for more information - 403-883-2100.
