Much to do in a short time

This week has certainly been busy at Wm. E. Hay with basketball teams in playoffs and grade 9 teams in CARA. As holidays are dispersed throughout March, there is much to do in a short period of time.

Twelve students from Wm. E. Hay will be travelling to our twin school in Sanitz, Germany in the spring of 2011 for three weeks. As part of the reciprocal exchange, twelve students from Sanitz will be attending school at Wm. E. Hay and staying with their partners in Stettler for three weeks starting at the end of September 2010. This is the third large group exchange that has taken place between Wm. E. Hay and Gymnasium Sanitz in the last five years. Organizational meetings will be occurring throughout March, April and May.

Auditions for the spring production of Go Ask Alice have taken place for Wm. E. Hay students. The script is powerful and based on a real diary of a young girl dealing with issues of body image and drugs and alcohol. Selected scenes are going to be co-directed by senior drama students.

A representative from Red Deer College will be at Wm. E. Hay on March 9 during flex time to meet with interested students and also one-on-one with students. Students can see Mr. Aspenes for more information.

On Thursday, March 11, Early Intervention/Meet the Teacher interviews will take place at the Legion Hall. A few teachers at Wm. E. Hay are also piloting ‘student learning conferences’ that same evening with their teacher advisory students. Parents who have students who will be taking part in student learning conferences will be receiving letters from their child’s teacher advisor.

March is sure to pass by quickly with teachers’ convention and spring break. Teachers’ Convention is on March 4 and 5, so there will be no classes on these days. Spring break runs from March 22 to March 26 and classes resume on March 29. On March 30, student services, in collaboration with the students’ union will be hosting a second ‘Speak Out – Student Engagement Initiative’ to hear student perspectives on education at Wm. E. Hay.

Stay tuned next week for more news from Wm. E. Hay.
