Morrin church service cancelled because of weather - Rumsey Record

What started out a week of warmer weather and melting snow ended up on Friday night as a January blizzard. Saturday and Sunday continued with blizzard-like conditions causing all kinds of cancellations. Morrin United Church was cancelled for the day on Sunday as the minister Rev. Mervyn and Marilyn Penfound would be travelling from Stettler. Later in the day, it was learned that the north Morrin road was experiencing deep drifts on this west-east road.

Hopefully, church services will continue on Sunday, Jan. 23 when Rev. Harold and Amy Hunter will be coming from Olds for the service.

We had an update from Gwen Hampton as Bert, her Dad has been transferred to the Hillview Lodge in Drumheller. This is the new facility across the driveway from Sunshine Lodge. The number of his room is 118 for anyone who could visit.

There will be a memorial service held for Jack Primrose on Saturday, Jan. 22 at Lambert Village in Strathmore at 2 p.m. This is the same location as he celebrated his 90th birthday four years ago. His two sisters-in-law, Crystal Primrose and Phyllis Primrose live in this building. Please pass this information on to anyone who you think would like to attend.

Once again, a reminder of the dates of the bonspiels to be held in Rumsey this winter: Men’s: Jan. 24-29; ladies’: Feb. 7-12; funspiel Feb. 25-27; mixed bonspiel, March 7-12 with banquets being held on the Saturday nights of each ‘spiel. Donna Sengaus is the one to call for booking the Rumsey community hall for functions. Her number is 368-2457.

Brooks Watts is the one to call for any curling questions as he is the head of the curling program this year.

Mark you calendar for April 16 for the Rumsey Ag.Society’s “Spring Fling”.

Tuesday, Jan. 18 is the date of the next birthday party at St. Mary’s Health Care Center in Trochu. Dariel McNaughton will be the hostess this month. The group of Marion Stiekle will be on hand to provide the entertainment.

The ladies that volunteer for these birthdays of the month are most grateful to the Rumsey Ag. Society for funding the gifts that each resident receives when it is their birthday month. Thank you.

The first meeting of the new upcoming year for the Rumsey Ride For STARS will be held Sunday, Jan.16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Agriplex.
