More volunteers needed for Gadsby centennial celebrations, you can still sign up

The weather has settled down enough to look around and evaluate the damages done. Most people around here say it is the worst garden they have ever had. I agree.

Welcome to Daniel Tuck who has taken possession of his new home and moved into Gadsby, August 1.

The Hoopfer/Currie/Wiltsie biannual family reunion was held the August 1 weekend at Seely Lake, Montana. This is a two day event alternating between the U.S.A. and Canada and enjoyed by one and all. This year, from our community Dewey and Joanne Hoopfer, Ron and Elpha Senft, Myrt Hoopfer, Gale, Max and Jessie McMillan, Betty Lou, Jim, Dillon and Derek Muhlbach, Cindy, Kevin and Daniel Falkenberg, Dwayne and Anne Hoopfer as well as Verna (Hoopfer) Herbert and family all attended.

Several from the Gadsby district attended the 80th birthday celebrations for Jean Hankins on August 1 at the Botha Senior Centre. The centre was brimming with well wishers, including Iona Berg and Paulette Heer who enjoyed meeting and greeting all the family.

Iona then spent a couple of days at the farm visiting with her cousin Florence Lunkwitz and Clyde King who were here from Nebraska for a few days. They had also been to Dawson Creek visiting Iona’s brother Bob ad Betty Hankins.

Donna McKay has been enjoying the summer with the Red Hat Ladies, bringing laughter and joy to all they meet.

There were 22 past and present Gadsbyites at the last formal meeting of the Gadsby Centennial group on Tuesday night. Many last minute details were discussed. Some points of interest were, we need volunteers to help with events and supper prep. Even though there is no deadline for parade entries please contact Rosalind at 403-742-5205 as soon as you know you can participate and we are still encouraging participants to come out and have a fun time in the parade. This applies also to the Saturday night supper, please notify Paulette at 403-574-2442 as soon as possible. We are meeting every Wednesday from now on, 2 p.m., to put together old pictures, tie up loose ends and have some fun.

Congratulations to Tom and Angela Bigney who were married July 31. The wedding was held in Stettler in a friend’s beautiful back yard, over 130 people there. The reception was held at the Stettler Community Hall followed by the open house and dance. Tom’s best men were his brother Kyle Bigney and friend Wayne Dolan. Angela’s bridesmaids were sister Amanda Smith and friend Kelli Thorson. The flowergirl was Tom’s niece Cooper Bigney who stole the show. Angela’s mother Charlene Smith gave the bride away. In attendance were parents Velvet and Fred Enwhistle of Gadsby, Charlene and Denise Smith of Stettler, grandparents Ester Renschler of Castor, Linda and Ben Nickerson and Pat and Shirley Rossi all of Kimberley, Velvet’s sisters Vickie and Terry and family of Kimberley and Faye and Frits and family from Salmo, B.C., sister-in-law Kristy and nephew Tye also of Kimberley, Tom’s step-sister Jocelyn and Dean and family from Frazer Lake, B.C. and Angela’s cousin Shauna from Calgary as well as Fred’s sisters Thelma from Kimberley, Kathy and Joey Prillar and Tyler for Didsbury.
