BIG VALLEY BULLETIN -- The Big Valley Elks' May 25 meeting resulted in making plans to celebrate the 90th anniversary of this lodge. They will celebrate it at their Christmas meeting on Dec. 13 with a meal and entertainment. There will be a short meeting prior to the supper and the festivities will be open to the public. Posters and further information to follow.

Their June meeting will be on the 28th and there will be a BBQ which will include spouses/family, so plan to attend. On July 1, the Big Valley Elks will again be in Trochu to cook for their brother Elks to celebrate Canada Day and inter-lodge golf is scheduled for Saturday, July 16.

This past Sunday, May 29 was the annual Memorial Golf Tournament to honour departed brothers. For a few years, Brother Elmer Kerbes was the honouree, then Brother Lloyd Duncan was included. Now the Memorial Golf Tournament has reverted back to being non-specific. Our community owes a lot to both Elmer and Lloyd, but time passes and it's only fair to include all those who have made contributions to make this lodge a strong force in the area.

It was a beautiful day for the tournament and the course was in tip-top shape. Thanks to the golf club and the work parties who tidied up the greens. Paul Jensen whacked the dandelions, so hopefully they won't be as abundant. Forty-nine golfers came out to enjoy the breakfast and beef-on-a-bun lunch. Thanks to Bill for the supplies and to all who organized and cooked. Len Currie again did a yeoman job on the golf side and as MC. Thanks to Sharon and Annette for their contributions on behalf of Elmer and Lloyd and kudos to Kent for honouring Brother Elmer every year.

After the dust, or sand in this case, settled that sand bagger Curt Watts came up with the winning group with an amazing round of 26. Members on the team were Arlene Oswald, Lynn Tomkulak, Amanda Baird, Randy Magnusson and Curt. Must have been the lady power. Congrats to them and thanks to Sharon and Annette for presenting the trophies.

All in all it was a great event and many thanks to all of you who took the time to come out and enjoy. The camaraderie is obvious and it's great to see the support we get. See you all next year.
