The Rumsey Ag. Society held their annual ball tournament over the weekend with fifteen teams taking part. The weather was great for playing ball and spectating also. The weekend had two pancake breakfasts, one each morning, cooked by the Rumsey fire department and the Trochu Elks. ( The Trochu Elks Lodge come as a return favour for the Big Valley Elks Lodge cooking in Trochu on July 1.)
Winners of the “A” event were the Neuk and the A Bombs which was Devon Senguas’ group. They won over the Screaming Wamballs of Big Valley.
Winners of the “B” event were the Christy Gray team from Trochu. They won over the Rowley community team.
Winning the “C” event were the Mitts from Trochu who won over the Dereck Sinclair team from Byemoor.
The Ag. Society are most greateful for the use of the RTV 900 from Drumheller Heartland Equipment for use over the weekend. Great service.
The weekend was compiled with several other events; the wedding of Crystal Sharpe and Hugo; and the wedding of Chris Warner and Raeann Halfkenny. Congratulations to both couples. Crystal and Hugo will be making their home in Mexico, where Hugo is a practising doctor. Chris and Raeanne will be living here in the district and are very much welcomed as they are great community supporters and volunteers.
Congratulations to Brad and Jacci Holowath as they welcome their new addition to the family. Baby girl Mary Allison Sylvia was born in Calgary on July 12 and is a welcome sister for Megan, Holly, and Justin. More grandchildren for Pat and Fred Holowath.
Ernie and I and Ken, Sharon and Cody were at Twena and Fred Koester’s home south of Rockford over the weekend to the Clausen cousins’ reunion. Relatives came from the states to make the weekend even more fun. There were 59 of us for supper on Saturday evening, coming from fifteen trailer units and also some tents. We also were very grateful for the nice weather over the weekend. We were saddened that Annie (Shymanski) couldn’t be with us as she is a patient in Calgary Peter Lougheed hospital. Please remember her in your prayers as she is a very sick lady.
An update on Sharon Goddard’s father in Edmonton hospital: he is really doing well and improving each day; the miracles of modern medicine.
Coming up very soon is the 20th annual “Ride For STARS.” Sunday, Aug. 9, at the TL Bar Ranch on the bank of the Red Deer River west of Rumsey. It will be a full weekend and a chance to support STARS. There is Saturday night camping, with breakfast on Sunday morning, commemorative T-shirts for sale, STARS souvenirs, poker rally, quilt raffle, roast beef supper after the ride, and the arriving of the helicopter in the afternoon.
I would say it is a day you won’t want to miss. If you haven’t already made a pledge to someone, get hold of someone.
