“I don’t want it to be over,” one youngster said after a recent Family Event of the Summer Reading Club.

The program isn’t over yet and it may now officially be August but there is still a little more than three weeks of fun that Reagan and Zoe have planned for everyone to enjoy.

Our next Family Event features the matinee Over the Hedge, on Aug. 2 at 10:30 a.m. and that includes popcorn and snacks.

Then return in the afternoon for an opportunity to unleash your creativity at our paint afternoon at 1 p.m.

Under Crystal’s careful guidance, parents and kids, you’ll be amazed at the beauty you can produce on canvas.

Spaces are limited so be sure to pre-register.

Children:

It’s not too late to get in on the fun that is the Summer Reading Club.

On Mondays and Tuesdays, we have two times for the different age groups in which they will play games, enjoy stories, interact with their friends and just have a great time.

The Solar Seekers are ages 5 to 8 and meet at 10:30 a.m. to noon. Lunar Legends is for kids ages 9 and up and meet from 2:30 to 4 pm.

The Garden Club’s veggies are enjoying the recent heat in our newly installed raised garden beds, and the children have been enjoying the veggies, including radishes and rhubarb.

Join us on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. if you want to play in the dirt with us. Don’t forget to check out the Cooking Club sessions on Thursday afternoons.

You should call ASAP to register as the Cooking Club fills up very fast. Our tip for you: call the Library when we open at 10 a.m. to register for the following week.

For kids at Rochon Sands, we bring our fun activities to the Community Hall Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Fridays brings our Family Events, and there are so many different things to try but I highly recommend the Amazing Race taking place on August 17.

Starting at 10 a.m., you and your family/friends complete challenges that get you clues to send you on to your next location somewhere in Stettler. Register today to get in on the race!

We have not forgotten about the youngest members of the family this summer. Bring your young children (0-5 yrs) to Read & Rhyme on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. for songs, stories, and fun activities.

To keep the reading fun going after Read and Rhyme, ask us about 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and we’ll reward you with a small prize when you reach each 100 book milestone.

Teens & ’Tweens:

Feel like getting your hands dirty while being creative?

Teen Scene on Aug. 7 at 4:30 p.m. could get messy as we create something amazing and unique with clay, no wheel or kiln required. Ages 10 +.

For a fun time, join us at Dungeons & Dragons Night for adventure, strategy, and storytelling on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. Ages 13 +. Snacks are provided!

Adults:

Take a walk downtown at dusk to discover the history of Stettler with our Historic Ghost Walk on Aug. 9 or Aug 10 at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 and available at the library. Ages 10 and up.

Mark your calendar for this month’s Film Circuit presentation of One Life starring Sir Anthony Hopkins and Helena Bonham Carter.

This movie tells the story of Nicholas Winton, who rescued hundreds of Jewish children from certain death during World War Two.

After feeling guilt for decades that he could have done more, he is reminded of the lives he did impact during a live BBC broadcast.

Watch with us on Aug. 12 at 6:30 p.m. Concession will be open for your nibbling needs.

Discovering your roots can be an amazing journey when you explore your family tree. Get tips and tricks for expediting that search from the Stettler Genealogy Club on Aug. 1 at 6:30 p.m. Beginners and experienced researchers are welcome.

Astound yourself with your own creativity by applying unique transfers to the glassware or mirrors using packing tape at Crystal’s Craft Club on Aug. 8 at 6:30 p.m. To register, call the library.

Those who love someone addicted to alcohol know firsthand the accompanying uncertainty and confusion. At Al-Anon meetings on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., we understand. Join us for support and tips for coping.

Are you an adult looking for crafts, games, and other activities to share with others at a relaxed pace? Then Afternoon Friends is for you on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. On Aug. 6 we’ll be playing Bingo and there are always fun prizes.

The Reader’s Circle novel pick for August is Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. Pick up a copy at the library and join us on Aug. 28 to discuss this story of the friendship between a bereaved mother and a curmudgeonly, giant octopus.

Minds in Motion is a program developed by the Alzheimer Society offering light exercise and cognitive games to enhance mental function for those experiencing cognitive issues. We meet each Thursday at 1 p.m. and welcome newcomers.

All Ages:

Wondering what to do with all those photo slides or videotapes you may have kicking around? Spend an afternoon in the air-conditioned comfort of the library and we’ll show you how to convert them to digital.

“Show me a family of readers, and I will show you the people who move the world.”—Napoleon
