Every time your Aunt Caroline starts rattling on about Great-Grandmother’s third cousin once removed, you remind yourself to take some time to explore your family tree. But where to start? Your local library can help you discover your roots.

We’re affiliated with Family Search, an international, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people discover their family stories. This means that you’ll have access to more information here than you would on your own. But beware! The mysteries of the past and the fascinating lives of your ancestors can be habit-forming.

To meet others with interests along these lines and swap tips and ideas in your search, Stettler Genealogy Club meets on the first Thursday of each month to help you track down your personal history. Next month’s meeting is scheduled for Thu, May 4, at 6:30 p.m. No experience is necessary.

Children:

Read and Rhyme is a young child’s favourite time, with songs, stories, and rhymes each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:30 a.m. Bring your little ones, aged 0-5 years for a fun morning.

What could be more fascinating than bricks that snap together? Join other Lego enthusiasts as we experiment and create with Lego from our vast collection on Sat, April 29 at 11 a.m.

Want to make something cool? Join Something Cool After School as we construct our own lava lamps on Tue, May 2, at 4 p.m. Then celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a festive piñata! On Thu, May 4, come and create your own to take home.

Teens & ’Tweens:

May the Third be with you? Join us in getting ready for May 4 with Star Wars fun on Wed, May 3, at 4:30 p.m. Ages 10+.

Adults:

Are you someone who expresses yourself best in writing? It can be a lonely pursuit, but spending time with other writers can motivate you and stimulate creativity. Stettler Writer’s Club meets Thu, April 27 at 6:30 p.m. to share written work and receive and provide feedback.

Get ready for a full moon with our next Paint Night on Fri, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. Bring a friend and enjoy a relaxing night (with snacks) as we paint a “Midnight Howl” scene. You’ll be amazed at how artistic you can be with a step-by-step approach to working with acrylic paints. There is a cost for this event of $25. Call to register.

Film Circuit at the library presents The Whale, which was nominated for three Academy Awards, on Mon, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy this critically acclaimed film exploring the complexities and contradictions of life through the eyes of a morbidly obese English teacher.

Pick up a copy of next month’s Reader’s Circle Book Club nonfiction selection Remember: The Science of Memory and the Art of Forgetting by Lisa Genova, neuroscientist and novelist. “A fascinating exploration of how we remember, why we forget, and what we can do to protect our memories.” We’ll meet on Tue, May 30, at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the book.

Relax with friends on Tuesday afternoons from 1-3 p.m. Afternoon Friends meet Tue, May 2 for an exciting game of Bingo.

Create a mini basket and fill it with flowers for the mom, grandma, or aunt in your life. Crystal’s Craft Club meets Thu, May 4 at 6:30 p.m. to create these sweet creations ahead of Mother’s Day. Pre-register as space is limited.

All Ages:

With some yarn, a crochet hook, and a little patience you can create something gorgeous at Crystal’s Crochet Club, Sat, April 29 at 1 p.m. Don’t worry if you’re a novice, we’ll help you get addicted.

Are you overwhelmed by the rapidly changing world of technology? Our knowledgeable staff can help you navigate your smartphone, iPad, tablet, or other electronic devices. Call for an appointment.

Don’t toss those scratched or dirty DVDs or CDs! Bring them to us and we’ll buff them for just $2/disc. And if your photographic slides and videotapes need updating, convert them to digital with our conversion equipment. We’ll show you how to use it.

For your job hunt, you want your resume to look professional. Why not consult our experienced employment resource person? Call for a Thursday afternoon appointment.

Monday nights are gaming nights, 8 p.m. To participate, subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online. Call the library for details. 13 and up are welcome.
