Lots of technology education at Christ King

CHRIST-KING CHRONICLE

Technology week has sprouted interest and excitement at Christ King School.

Linda Koskie, technology lead teacher for East Central Alberta Catholic Schools, was a resident teacher in Stettler for the week of Jan. 24-28, and spent time helping teachers and students improve their skills and knowledge.

Kindergarten, Grade 1 and 2 students gained experience using SMARTboard technology and Grade 3 and 4 students learned about webpages.

Mrs. Koskie also taught them how to create tours on Google maps and insert pictures and information about places across Alberta.

Teachers Erin Sturtevant, Kristy Gulak, and Natasja Willms created class webpages for parent and student use. Funding for Technology Week also allowed us to purchase a new video camera and three digital cameras for student use. Linda will be returning to Christ King School for follow up visits as we continue to integrate technology into student learning.

Chargers basketball has had an amazing start to their season with three consecutive wins. The undefeated team continues to practice on Mondays after school under the guidance of teacher, Kristy Gulak. They are continually improving their defense and making great shots.

Thursday, Jan. 27 saw the sun shining and students dressed for warmer climes at our school-wide beach day in celebration of Family Literacy Day. Families were invited to attend and travelled to seven different learning and literacy stations throughout the school with their children. Everyone enjoyed beach volleyball in the gym hosted by principal and physical education teacher, Sheldon Gallagher, and grooved to the sounds of the 60s beach scene. Jeopardy, bingo and charades were also hits, as was a Robert Munsch-a-thon in Elissa Hellekson’s classroom. Prizes of books and family board games were won for craziest costumes with the family door prize going to Shelley Swaren and her family. Congratulations!
