BIG VALLEY BULLETIN -- The Big Valley Ag. Society held their annual slo-pitch tournament on the June 24 weekend with 24 teams participating.

The tournament was deemed a success with the added attraction of recording artists Dominoe from Stettler performing at the agriplex Saturday night.

We thank all those who supported this event in any way.

Final results of the tournament were the Big Valley Stealers winning the A event 18-17 over a team from Red Deer/Clive. The B Event saw the Loose Mitts Limp Sticks of Stettler defeat the Jager Bombers also from Stettler in a closely contested match. The C Event saw the team Nemesis defeat The Brew Jayz from Stettler 11-7. In the D Final the Mound Pounders won over I’d Hit That with both teams hailing from Stettler as well.

The fire department will host their annual tournament the August 5 weekend along with a steak supper and pancake breakfast so please mark this event on your calendar.

The slo-pitch league playoffs start next week with finals being held on July 14.

At their last meeting prior to the summer hiatus, the Big Valley Elks held the Elks ritual service for a departed brother.

Brother Alan Berresford was the sitting ER (president) whose passing was quite sudden. Brother Alan Jacobsen gave an excellent eulogy emphasizing Brother Berresford’s past military experience in carrying out Elk rituals. Brother Berresford served as district deputy as well as multiple terms as ER and definitely pulled his weight in all Elk endeavors. His dedication and commitment to the organization will be missed.
