Local girl enjoys Alberta Winter Games

Jacey Gamroth was one of five local skiers who experienced the thrill of the Alberta Winter Games last weekend in Bonnyville, along with her parents, Allen and Laura, and her sisters.

Ski events were held in Cold Lake and Jacey did very well placing in the top 20. Highlight of Jacey’s trip was the dance, where she got to meet lots of fellow competitors.

On the same weekend, Tiana Gamroth and Kiara Gamroth attended a ski meet in Red Deer where Tiana won a gold medal. This weekend the Valley Ski club hosted their race meet.

Competing were the Schauers, the Gamroths, the Schillings and Nicolas Ruddell who all skied very well.

Keep up the good work kids and maybe you will be representing Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Sales of citrus fruit this year was well supported. The money raised will go towards the grades 1-6 ski trip to Alliance and the junior high trip to the mountains.

Congratulations to Crystal Schellenberg and Will Oickle of the birth of an 8-pound 3-ounce baby boy, Jack William, born on February 3 in Daysland hospital. Jack has a big sister, Dakota, at home.

The Schaffners, Brent, Ellyn, Max and Jillian were among the many who experienced the Olympic dream in Vancouver. They saw the Canadian women’s hockey team defeat Sweden, watched Cheryl Bernard curl against Switzerland, toured the pavilions from other countries, were present for a medal ceremony at BC Place, enjoyed the Bare Naked Ladies concert plus ate seafood on the waterfront. Vancouver is an awesome city.

Dave and Linda Chick returned on Friday from relaxing holiday in Puerta Valarta, Mexico. It was a great break from our long winter.

Jan and Rose Koenraadt spent a weeks holiday in Jamaica at the Grand Pallium resort, an hour from Montego Bay. They appreciated the beautiful weather, the fertile soil, a tour the Dunn River falls and the taste of fresh picked oranges.

Harold and Velma Chick, Tanya and Troy Slemp and kids, Mandy and Dale Gonda and girls, Kurt and Erin all spent Family day visiting with Dave and Linda.

Don’t forget that the Halkirk Curling Club is hosting the men’s and the ladies’ bonspiels March 4 to 6. Entrees ( either team or individual ) can be submitted to JD or Sandra Johnson at 884-2250

Mark your calenders on March 3 there is a rural water information session at the Halkirk Seniors’ Center from 6 to 8 p. m. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
