Local farmers win Bashaw bonspiel - Halkirk Herald

Congratulations to our local curlers, JD Johnson, Rocky Dahmer, Tony Nibourg and a Bashaw resident who placed 1st in the First event at the Bashaw Farmers’ bonspiel last weekend.

This weekend, JD Johnson, Allan Gamroth, Rocky and his son, Ryan Dahmer were curling at the Farmers Spiel in Stettler. Also curling was Karl Krautt and Justin Fowler on the Mens side and Grace Krautt with the Farmerettes.

Junior high teacher Mike Courtney drove the school bus last Wednesday when our school students were in Edmonton to attend a WHL hockey game. The Edmonton Oil Kings hosted the Kootenay Ice out of Cranbrook.

Our community sends best wishes out to Dave Chick, who is a patient at the Foothills hospital in Calgary.

Friends of Shirley Brodersen will be interested to hear that she recently moved into the Paintearth Lodge in Castor.

Continuous snow falling during the week gave school kids a snow day, cancelled the Thursday night Bingo and a basketball tournament at Brownfield on Saturday as well as some post-Christmas get togethers. It also meant that there isn’t much news this week.

Elliott and Sharon Land attended the 4-H Induction ceremonies at the Red Deer Lodge on Saturday, Jan. 15. Sharon’s sister, Anita Mappin was one of two who were inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame. Anita has been involved with the Stettler 4-H district for 20 years. She is former president of AB 4-H council and represents Alberta on the Canadian 4-H Council. Congratulations.
