The Live Steam Show was on Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, 19. You could feel the heat and smell the coal burning as model steam engine enthusiasts came together to display their fascinating creations. I couldn’t begin to name everything that was here.
Rod Miller was there with his Tubmobile, which he said he built out of mostly junk. It is driven by a sawed in half model T engine. He also had his 1907 Monitor six-horsepower stationary engine. It was built in 1907 by Baker Mfg. Co., Evansville Wisconsin. Rod has the original bill of sale. It was last used on a farm in Southern Saskatchewan in the 1930’s for sawing wood, and crushing grain. There was also a miniature thrashing machine, a little yellow car that the kids enjoyed driving around.
Don’t forget the pot luck dinner for the Schultz family on July 23 5 p.m. in the Big Valley Drop-in Centre. Please bring your favourite dinner dish to share.

Friday afternoon bingo is still going on, so if by chance, you have nothing to do, drop by and spend a couple of hours playing bingo. It doesn’t cost much, you don’t win much but it is fun.
The Elks held their golf tournament on Saturday July 11 at the Big Valley Golf Course. It looked like they had a pretty good turnout. And I heard the streak supper was excellent.
There was also a camp out at Trochu Sunday and Monday nights, golfing was good, company was good, food was excellent. The greens were darn fast. It was pretty windy and I heard nobody wanted to golf Monday before they left.
It is so nice to see the volunteers who are working hard to clean up public areas in our village in preparation for the homecoming. The community is really starting to look good. Hopefully we get more rain to keep it green.
