Identifying the service priorities for the Big Valley Municipal Library over the next five years was the motivation for a community planning committee meeting held on Saturday, April 17. Designed to solicit community input, this strategic planning process has helped the library gain a solid sense of the community’s needs and identify which of those needs can be met by the library.

Hosted by the Big Valley Municipal Library Board and facilitated by Parkland Regional Library, the meeting was an opportunity for community representatives to express their opinions regarding the role of the library.

More than a dozen people were in attendance for the day long planning session. Attendees included representatives from local businesses, village council, the Drop-in Centre, Métis Association, the Hall Board, Big Valley Evangelical Free Church, the Family Literacy Program, Elks, Royal Purple, Legion, Big Valley Historical Society, the Big Valley Fire Department, the Ag. Society, Big Valley School Advisory Council, area home-schoolers and Big Valley youth.

Although intended to assist the library in forming a plan of service, this meeting was essentially a forum for citizens to freely express their opinions and concerns regarding the needs of Big Valley and to help create a community vision for the future.

Unmistakably, Big Valley’s greatest asset is the remarkable dedication of the people who have consistently served this community over the years.

The library board would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took the time out of their busy schedules to attend this meeting and be part of the community decision making process. Your time and input was invaluable.
