With the onset of winter, there’s more to look forward to than simply cocooning. Why not gather your friends for a thoughtful night out at next month’s Film Circuit presentation Mon, Dec. 2, 6:30 p.m?

The Old Oak is the last pub standing in a once-thriving mining village in northern England. When Syrian refugees move into the floundering town, a rift develops between the community and its newcomers. But an unexpected friendship between the pub proprietor and a young Syrian woman opens new possibilities for everyone.

We’ll have hot, buttery popcorn, our small concession will be open, and admission is free, though donations are always gratefully accepted.

Perhaps you have an artistic side that you’d like to develop. Come to Stettler Art Club on Thursdays at 6 p.m. where you can work on your project, discuss all things art, and even collaborate with like-minded people. We welcome all levels of ability, ages 18 and up. Bring your own supplies and work in progress.

Children:

Keyanna always has something fabulous for the kids to do at Something Cool After School on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m.

Test your science and engineering skills by building a crayon box on Nov. 28.

You’re never too small to make a beautiful gift for someone special. Join us on Dec. 3 when we’ll make the cutest of wreaths. Then on Dec. 5, you’ll make your own Advent calendar. Ages 6 and up.

Introduce your little ones (ages birth to five years old) to Read & Rhyme Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 10:30 a.m.

Then keep the reading going throughout the week by participating in our program 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten for a small prize when you reach the reading milestones. Ask the staff for details.

Teens & ’Tweens:

Invent a board game for yourself or to give as a gift at Teen Scene on Dec. 4 at 4:30 p.m. Ages 10 and up.

For a rollicking good time on Tuesday evenings, join our Dungeons & Dragons Night. We tell stories, role play and strategize on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. Ages 13 +. Snacks are provided!

Adults:

Nutcrackers are synonymous with Christmas. Join Crystal’s Crafters on Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. to create one from popsicle sticks to hang on your tree. Or, make several to give as gifts. Pre-register by calling the library.

Get hooked on yarncraft at Crystal’s Crochet Club on Nov. 30 at 1 p.m. Knitters and other needleworkers are also welcome.

Join us in making granny squares for the community afghan, bring your current work in progress, or if you’re a beginner, learn this fine art from others who will be willing to teach you.

Get ready for Christmas with the Afternoon Friends on Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. Grab your apron because we’ll be baking gingersnaps!

To get in on next month’s Reader’s Circle literary discussion, pick up a copy of December’s book, Sense of an Ending, by Julian Barnes. This “brief but potent work about memory, class, sex and the way we imperfectly bear witness to our own lives” is a bestselling winner of the Booker Prize.

We’ll meet Wed, Dec. 18, at 6:30 p.m. to share our impressions of this historical fantasy.

If you are facing a job search soon, why not get professional help revamping your resume to make it stand out to prospective employers?

Our employment resource volunteer has 30 years of experience and is available to help you on Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. Call for an appointment.

For anyone struggling as they watch someone close to them overindulge in alcohol, Al-Anon meetings offer hope and encouragement on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. Confidentiality is guaranteed.

Minds in Motion is a program of the Alzheimer Society that provides an hour of mild exercise followed by an hour of cognitive games to keep your mental faculties humming. We meet on Thursdays, 1-3 p.m. and welcome newcomers.

All Ages:

LEGO Club gathers around our vast collection of bricks and pieces for a creative session of building on Nov. 30 at 3 p.m.

On Monday nights, from 8-9 p.m., Stettler and Rocky Mountain House Public Libraries meet online for a fun gaming session.

Call the library for the link to participate in the group chat and make sure you’re signed up with Nintendo Switch Online to participate in the Nintendo games.

Cold winter days are perfect for a warming soak in the Rec Centre’s hot pool. If that appeals to you, take advantage of one of our free, circulating one-week Family Passes granting you use of the gym and pool. Call the library to get your name on the waitlist.
