Hasn’t the long spell of mild, snowless weather been wonderful?

We’ve been able to get caught up on several outdoor jobs in our yard that early snow in other years has sometimes forced us to leave undone.

Only one problem, the pleasant temperatures seem to have lulled me into thinking there’s plenty of time left before Christmas.

If that’s happened to you, let our upcoming programs for all ages not only get you in the mood but also prepare you with holiday treats and gift-crafting ideas, too.

It’s getting to be the season for Christmas parties and that includes the Library as well. Please note that the Stettler Public Library will be closing at 6 pm on Nov. 27 to allow the staff to get into the holiday spirit. We will reopen to regular hours on Nov. 28. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Pull out the baking supplies and whip up a batch of Christmas sugar cookies, shortbread, gingerbread or whatever is your favourite and bring two dozen of them to Cookies & Crafts on Dec. 14 at 1 p.m.

You’ll leave with a full container of a variety of sweets plus a Magic Christmas Shoe to hang on your tree at home.

Children:

School’s out and the library’s in on Nov. 22 when we’ll be showing the movie If, where a girl discovers she can see everyone’s imaginary friends. Follow the smell of the popcorn and come join us for the fun.

Interested in Something Cool After School? It runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m. and there is always something great to do!

On Nov. 21 we’ll be making air-dry clay pinch pots. Then come back on Nov. 26 to add vibrant paint and bring your pot to life. You’re only limited by your imagination.

Learn about structure, balance, and creative problem-solving as you make a cool box to store your favourite crayons on Nov. 28. Ages 6+.

Do you have little ones 0-5 years? Bring them to Read & Rhyme Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Fridays at 10:30 a.m. for a session of hearing stories, singing songs, and having fun. Ask the staff about our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program, you can receive a small prize for each reading goal you reach.

Teens & ’Tweens:

Let’s make cookie dough!

Maybe some will even get baked. We’ll be mixing it up on Nov. 27 at 4:30 p.m. Pre-registration needed. Ages 10 and up.

For a great time strategizing and role-playing, join us for Dungeons & Dragons Night on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. Ages 13 +. Snacks play a starring role, too.

Adults:

Create a giant snowflake (that won’t melt) for your door or window at Crystal’s Crafters tonight (Nov. 21) at 6:30 p.m. To register, call the library.

If crafting isn’t the thing, you can relax on Zoom with Yoga Nidra for immune support and better sleep tonight (Nov. 21) at 8 p.m. Call the library for the link.

Enjoy the magic of music with other ukulele players at our lively and accessible jam on Nov. 26 at 3 p.m. We have a couple of ukuleles available if you’d like to borrow one for this event.

Stettler Art Club is a place where like-minded people gather to discuss, create, and collaborate on art projects. We meet on Thursdays at 6 p.m. and welcome all levels of ability and experience. Bring your own supplies and current work-in-progress.

If there’s a book simmering inside you, a group of wordsmiths could be exactly what you need to help you get it written. Join Stettler Writer’s Club on Nov. 28 at 6:30 p.m. to share your writing and receive and provide feedback with other local writers.
